I think Ford's strategy is to go after the Z/28 with the GT350R. That'll be the one with the barely street legal tires and no back seat.

It's a bit more difficult to pinpoint the direct competitor for the base GT350. My first guess is the ZL1, but the 350 is obviously a bit more track-oriented than that version of the Camaro. Maybe the Z/28 is the competition of BOTH versions of the GT350; one version that will keep up with/outperform it, and one that will give you most of the performance at a more affordable price.

I'm crossing my fingers that the base GT350 will stay around 50k.

I agree with your take on it, I think the base GT350 will be aimed at a more affordable option, with the 350R being the expensive all-out car. Plus the ability to turn a standard GT350 into a 350R with some FRPP dealer available parts.

Now lets see if it gets a set of turbos and a GT500 badge next year...

The point i was trying to make was that in the hands of a pro such as Mr Pobst, the GT500 with its raw power was neck and neck with the track oriented ZL1..

And yes...it is later than a ZL1...which doesnt make that particular a good measuring stick...but still a stick thats going to be measured regardless.

But it looks like this car is going to run really close to a Z/28 for less money with a lot more everyday usability (which depending on which debate we are having is good one time and worthless the other).

I heard a sound clip of it under rev while on the stage tonight...sounds awesome...

neat car, a

Launch control button. At least that is the only thing I caught that stood out. LC button. I'm assuming that's launch control. Or it's the push button start, which is what I wish the Zl1 had.

What I find interesting about the GT350 and discussions comparing it to various cars is this:

When the Z28 was announced and Ring tracktimes were published, there was a collective ho hum by the enthusiast community, particularly the Blue Oval guys. Comments like "Who takes their car to the road track?","We're all stop light to stop light guys.", etc. Now everyone seems to be a road track guy. What happened in the last year?

8200ish redline.

I remember running my 2V to its 5700 rpm and thinking it was fun. 7k on the Shelby is neat too....8200 is insane.

The GTs and 6 and Eco all have push start...

Its a neat car, loads of handling prowess for those interested...no denying...so some are excited about it...

The same people who bashed the z/28 for what it was wont luje this car unless they're blind loyalists

Agree with the ZL1 comparison with the new GT350 but the old GT500 was not in the same league as the ZL1 but the new GT350 is like a Ford carbon copy of the ZL1. Ultimately the weight will be the determining factor on how this new one does on the track.

It sure looks good in white with blue stripes.
