lol... congrats on the ride !
I dunno maybe it's just me, but I find the pic's of you staring in the window HILLARIOUS !!! hahah... And the fact that you went all the way there just to "look" knowing you couldn't take off with it.... just to torment yourself further.. heheh.. really captures the image of just how pathetic (and I don't mean that disrespectfully by any means) "the wait" for "the car" makes us all. Like a kid waiting to catch Santa on the way to the tree with the goods. Very cool of you to be willing to add on to "the wait" for the sake of your dealer... I think that speaks miles on your dealers behalf, as well as your character. That's patience.. enjoy the reward. |

UPDATE - The First Drive Review
Ok. So I know at least one of you is waiting with bated breath for my review of the first ride. Well, here it is...
HOLY SCHNIKES! ![]() Get comfy. I have a feeling this is going to be another long one. Let me set this up a bit by telling you that I have driven fast cars and great handling cars before. As well as cars with big engines (e.g. 500ci V8, V12, etc). Do I race cars on the weekend? No, but I fancy myself as having some experience with cars with pep. Ok, nuff said there. So I arrive at the dealership and my salesman is already up and opening the double doors at the front of the building so we can get the car out (Did I tell you that he has been great?). He moves a car out of the way and I hand him the keys back to the Camaro so he can drive it out of the showroom. I actually wanted him to drive it out so I could hear the stock exhaust note as he started it up and pulled it out. I have to tell you I was impressed. Many people were saying that it wasn't load enough so I was expecting a dull exhaust note. It wasn't that at all. I would say to anyone who was questioning the need for a different exhaust for the better note, try the stock one first. My salesman parks it in front of the building, jumps out and hands me the keys. Now we're talking! I get my feel for the car, buckle up and head toward the exit. The next thing I notice is the clutch. I started driving on a manual and have had manuals all my life. My wife currently has a 6-speed Jeep that I drive regularly. The manual of the Camaro is different. I think the difference is in the clutch. The clutch action is much shorter than I expected and it is really on or off. What I mean by that is there really isn't a section in the middle of the clutch that you can play with before it engages. Not saying this is bad or good, just different. I felt as if I was starting to get used to it even by the end of my first 15 mile drive. It is just something that I need to get used to. I putt around through town a little bit in order to get out to a road outside of town. BTW, I hit the skip-shift twice in town because I wasn't revving it high enough. It isn't a big deal, but it did catch me off guard the first time I saw it pop up. The road is a two lane that basically runs up the side of a small mountain. My salesman felt it would be a good place to feel the handling and some of the power of the car. As the traffic of town started to peel off I started to push the throttle a bit. I think I was in 3rd gear and I could just tell that this car wants to rev high and it wants to go fast. Everyone who has a bit of a lead foot needs to pay attention to this. This car will get up and go and you will think you are driving 45. Well, you won't be and the cop will be glad to tell you how fast you are going. My salesman asks if I would mind getting on the gas a little bit. I believe this was his first time in a V8 also and he wanted to feel what it was like. So I get on it just a bit and we both sit back in our seats. There is a car in front of us so I have to back off, but I think we were both like this -> .With a little grin my salesman is happy to point out that there is a passing zone coming up if I would like to get out from behind this slow driving truck in front of us. Unbelieveable, but he must have been reading my mind. ![]() I am in fourth gear as the passing lane comes into sight and I start to push down the accelerator. I have to tell you as I said earlier, you want the RPMs to be up in this car when you want to get on it. It wants to be in a certain rev range in order to get all the power. Nonetheless, it did just fine getting us out from behind that truck and once the RPMs got up and responded positively with a nice growl from the exhaust. You will learn quickly the range in which this car wants to run. I run out in the open for a little bit and WOW! That's all I can say. WOW! Funny to say, but I can't wait to let my wife drive it. She is going to love it. I know it is my first ride in my car and I am sure I had a little "blinded-by-love" type thing going on, but everything about this car is awesome. The power, the handling, the sounds, the seats, etc, etc. There have been a lot of posts on here from people saying the visibility in the car is bad. I have to say I disagree completely. It is different, but even with a giant window sticker on the passenger's side of the windshield, I had no issues with visibility either in town or out on the open road. I hit the turnaround point and I head back down the hill. One thing I notice is that when you are revving higher (maybe 3000 or above) in a gear (say 3rd) and let off the gas, you get this great gurgle from the exhaust. I love it. I wind back through town and back into the lot. I back it into the spot in front of the doors just to see how visibility and backing is. Not bad at all. You definitely need to be able to use your mirrors when backing. I will also say that getting the car into reverse takes a little getting used to. It is very close (or at least feels very close) to 5th gear. Again, just something to note and that I need to get used to. For the entire ride, I never had a reason to take the gearbox beyond 4th. The car just has so much power that crusiing at 55 in 4th gear is nothing. My salesman walks me around to parts to see if my CAI and catback are in. The latter is and we schedule it to get installed this week. CAI is still MIA. I can't wait to hear the catback live on this car! I end up driving the car around back and backing it into the service bay. I stand there for a minute admiring the car and talking to some of the staff (I hope you guys are reading this). I feel a little bad leaving it there. Not that I don't trust the dealership, but I just don't want to leave it. I want to take it home. I want it to be in my garage. In fact, I want to drive it every day. I didn't get the car as a daily driver, but I think it is going to be hard NOT to drive it daily. So I drive home with a little tear in my eye and realize that I don't have the same power at my toe-tips and the handling of my truck is no longer up to par. That's what being in this car for 15 minutes will do to you. I am looking forward to going back there on Thursday and taking my baby home for good. I think it is going to look great sitting in my garage. To all the GM folks who have put there heart and soul into this car, I feel it. I know what this car means to you. It means the same and more to me. I am grateful to everyone who had a hand in making mine. I really feel that you have hit a homerun with this car. I hope that you sell more than you can make. I hope that you know how much I and many others like me appreciate the car you have created. Well done.

I titled it that way for a couple of reasons. In general I thought it would get people's attention and they would come in here ready to flame then read a nice story. Maybe I should have the mods add (Please read on) after the title?

Will do.
Oh, and I second your thoughts (I didn't get the car as a daily driver, but I think it is going to be hard NOT to drive it daily.) I have only had mine for 3 months. I have over 7600 miles so far. This is not a daily driver, but when cruising it is driven all day. Enjoy! Have you come up with a name yet?

First of all, this is sig worthy: "Try the stock one first"
That's great.I enjoyed the write up as much as the first. I'm sitting in mine on my phone (just wiping down the dash) ![]() Glad you like it. I myself have just yesterday had the same feeling, (not sure if you've followed) but it is a powerfully good feeling. Like it's too good to be true. I forgot it was the V6 you drove that day. I remember you telling us about it. So this is pretty different huh? You tell the story well my freind and I know you'll love this car. I'm really jazzed for you. |

I felt my heart sink when I read that title. I know how much you want this car, and I was reading, not noticing the pictures below my browser window, thinking that the salesperson actually sold it to someone else or that your nice dealer was just a facade. It is good to see that your dealer was genuine and real about the purchase, and I couldn't congratulate you more on getting this beautiful Camaro.
