Good luck! Bring your laptop and show him the volume of posts where the dealers repaired this issue correctly. They'll take care of you.

See, this just proves it matters who you are dealing with. Not sure where the
problem is, but somewhere along the line there is some AHOLE causing this problem. It's not across the board or the above I quoted would have never have happened.

Yea, you quoted me and all I had to do is sent one little pic in email to my salesman while I was out of town. He called me two days later and said not to even bother coming in, just take it to their body shop and the work was approved sight unseen... Repair took 3 days toal and it was repainted. Thats how it should be!

Angry PAINT ISSUES - BEWARE!! Personal expereince with GM

I am currently going through hell with my local dealership. My Solstice had unmatched doors (factory issue) that the area rep approved to be repainted and blended. The local dealership doesn't have it's own paint shop so it's contracted out. My car has been repainted 5 different times. Each time it has runs, fingerprints, fisheyes, dirt, tape lines, orange peel, and on and on and on. I've rejected the work every time. I have never received any paperwork from the dealership about what's going on with my car.

The service manager told me to put it in writing what I wanted him to do about the car since their "certified" shop can't get it right. I know better than to "put it in writing" until I know what all possible scenarios are. I contacted the local Chevrolet dealership. They measured the paint. It's .2mm thickness away from the paint manufacturer's lifetime warranty being VOID. When the paint is too thick, the manufacturer can no longer guarantee what it will do. Thich paint results in all kinds of issues. What this means to me is....the car is on a lease and without proper documentation, I have no proof when I turn it in after the lease is over, that paint failure is not my fault. That I may have painted it outside a certified shop. I have a 39 month lease. It will be turned in 3 months after warranty on the car expires. So basically, if the paint is failing, I get screwed.

I called GM customer service and complained. (By the way, this is the BEST way to get anything done with these dealerships. Their asses get kicked by GM if they don't satisfy the customer's needs. DON'T rely on the dealership to report the issue because they are telling on themselves and will down-play the issue!)

I have just found out that, in order for a dealership to have Corvettes in their inventory, they must have or send their paint/body repair vehicles to a GM certified shop. Well guess what? The shop that just panted my car 5 times, is the ONLY certified shop that this dealership has access to. So you can probably reason through this one by yourself. They told GM customer service that I'm too picky and the car is fine. GM customer service rejected my request for a new paint shop. This service manager is the one who PICKED their paint shop. So basically, he would get nailed for picking a crappy shop AND for his boss having to give up his Corvettes!

My best advice is.....don't trust ANYONE. Document, document, document, and take photos EVERY step of the way. Go STRAIGHT to GM customer service and file a complaint.

When consumers puchase a car, it is supposed to be exactly to GM specs. That's why they have a warranty. If they want to use touch-up paint, the dealership is covering something up. Period.

Know your rights, know the lemon law statutes in your state. Know how to use arbitration through the Better Business Bureau, and by all means, have a good lawyer.

My car is going back to the same paint shop to get mangled one more time. It's my fault for believing in the service manager. And my hands are tied because I didn't take pictures and force them to document correctly and give me copies. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Recent update. GM told the dealership not to take the car back today because it has gone legal. I will NEVER own another GM vehicle again.

OK... i was all into your rant until this line. Please... its a piss poor dealer and piss poor paint shop, NOT GMs FAULT! And I bet you are being a little overly critical. Its a lease dude, drive it for 39 months, turn it in and be done with it. Don't put GM in the hangmans neuce for an issue with your dealership. I turned my C5 lease in with several cracks and scratches, bald tires and ample wear and tear (I autocrossed the car)... never heard a peep.

To add to what jrhaus76 said, it's normal for them to cut you off per say once legal actions have been taken. It's too much of a risk to continue working with you in that case. This is standard procedure for any company. That's why any sort of legal steps should be the absolute last resort.

Sounds to me like people need to put that 90 day return policy into action. Oh yeah right, problems with your Maro don't qualify under this program do they. Another 'deal' they pulled on us.

It's a 60 day return policy not 90, and yes it does apply to the Camaro, $500 off if you choose not to participate. But the program does not apply to people like Verio or myself who received their cars before the program started.

There is a bulletin that came out on 11/6/09 that talks about the rear fascia contacting body and causing the paint to peel. Its in the same area as Verio's. The bulletin# is 09-08-51-005. There is NO WAY they can deny a claim. I will attach the bulletin in a bit.

Edit: I'm only attaching a screen shot because the bulletin is 6 pages and I don't know how to attach as a thumbnail.

Thiggin,

Thank you VERY much for this information. I've forwarded the TSB number on to the rep I have been working with, and I believe this should be taken care of quite quickly now.

Thank you.

Hey no problem . Its just been sickening reading your posts about this problem and seeing how the dealer is handling it . Being that this is a known problem it shouldn't matter what dealer you bring it to.

Good luck and PLEASE tell us the outcome .

I myself would try to get hold of GM. Because my dealer told us when we bought the car anything happens to the paint or the inside of the car it was under warranty. Or, mybe go to another dealer and she what they say about it. Good luck. I look all the time for paint peeling on my car.
