It will be tough without a solid paying job; its tough for me since im a grad student. But if he keeps his priorities and works part time, he could have a good build and a decent amount of money to burn for the build.

I don't know exactly but I'm somewhere around 25k not including the price of the car which was 31k new(2LT/RS with Nav & sunroof). That includes all the cosmetic and interior mods and thousands I've spent trying to get the exhaust to sound good. So all together I'm around ZL1 money and have probably 100whp & 100wtq on them with less curb weight. Traps 134mph in the 1/4, and still knocks out 30+ mpg on highway trips. It's not for everybody but I love it.
But I do all my own work so I haven't spent any money on labor. In fact, if I wasn't a mechanic and able to handle everything that comes along with having a custom modified car, I wouldn't have went this route. I couldn't imagine what I would have spent if I had to pay a shop for every little thing I've done. Scary to even think about.

I used this forum to do a TON of research before selecting parts for my Mod, then price checked the many vendors for the best deals. It took me around 4 months to build my beast, and had a lot of fun doing it. Yep - there were bugs and redo's along the way, but one learns from it. Needless to say, the car is amazing, at least to me. I hid the itemized costs, but it is around $35K and around 500 hours of my labor.
My VERY detailed Build Thread - one can learn a lot here http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442230 |

Some really impressive mods out there. Only about 600$ here. Elite catch can, a Z28 CAI and a few cosmetic mods. For some reason I've always been a stock kinda person; probably stems from the fact that I've always had classics before my '13 1LE and always thought the originality of the car was more my taste.
However lately I've been considering adding some headers to the Camaro and a tune to give it a little more umph. But for those of us who really don't have a place to go WOT within a close proximity is it really worth it? |

I get reports from KBB on the value of my Camaro. I have 18 months left on the lease. It dipped BELOW the residual yesterday for the first time. Guess it's time to mod, 3 grand or 30 grand, I'm still in the hole!

I have not kept detailed records but just adding up all of the itema i can recall off the top of my head I would say around $3000 over the six years i have had it. i spent about half of that this year on new upper and lower grills and new wheels. i had a good year financially so i decided to finish off most of the cosmetic items I wanted to do.

I never looked at what it cost to build my car. I know I had a vision and built it the way I wanted to.
