I'm not engineer, but I think when you weigh in everything it takes to have electric accessories, it ends up weighing more. For example, when you have electric windows, mirrors, locks, etc., there has to be a body control module that controls these features (don't ask me why they need these now since there used to be power windows that didn't need a computer to tell it to go up and down.) All that extra wiring, computers, and so-on add up to more than a simple mechanical system. If you've ever looked at manual lock mechanisms you'll have a better idea what I'm trying to say. Heck, I'm sure a bigger battery and alternator are required too for the extra electrical demand of these items, so again, in the end, I think these are some reasons why electric accessories are heavier.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

A USB drive would be handy. I don't like the ipod, too expensive for what you get.

I just got a new 4 gb sansa clip for 80 bucks. I also have a mini FM transmitter than uses the headphone jack. So I can listen to my music on anything that has an FM reciever.

wires and motors are heavy. batteries are very heavy, but a second battery isn't needed (yet). I don't know much about the guts of window mechanisms, but I assume that power windows basically replace the crank with an electric motor. Sure some components would be redesigned and relocated, but thats the simpliest that I can think of making it. So if thats the case, then I can't see how manual windows could be heavier than electric.

I've used a lot of FM transmitters and, due to FCC regulations on signal strength, most of them suck. Does yours not suck, and if so, what brand/model is it?

One thing that improves reception in the car is to remove the car's FM antenna, which works great if you don't listen to any FM broadcasts other than your transmitter and strong local signals. I can only guess why it works, but I can say that it definitely works in both my GMC and my VW.

Possibly, but I'm not sure where the problem is: my previous mp3 player's headphone jack was dying, the speakers in the saturn aren't that good, I regularly picked up a little static on every station, and most of the music I listen to is from CD's ripped at the lowest possible quality. So I could have an awful transmitter and not even notice.

And I could remove the antenna, my sansa has its own FM receiver.
