![]() Of course, I did mention it to my dealer when I took my car in for the HVAC update but they were unable to reproduce the issue. I wasn't expecting it to be fixed, but I did want to have it documented incase anything does break. |

Could it be something with the suspension? I noticed a squeak coming from my front left everytime I hit a speed bump... I get the exact sounds SS mike describes..mine does it on my yard when I'm slighty turning my wheels to back up after a wash so I don't think it's a pavement issue.... Could there be a link between the noise and the shocks?

Just took mine in today for the same issue. I was told that GM is working on a recalibration of the ABS system and I would be contacted to bring it back in. I'll post when i get the call and have it done.

damnit all these people and noone has been able to find the culprit! This SUCKS
Funny thing is I had lowering springs installed about a month and a half ago. Well before I did I took the car to the dealer for them to check this out so it documented before the install of the lowering springs, Dealer was not able to reproduce it, went on a test drive and I was unable to reproduce it, and the guy checked out the whole front suspension and everything was in order. After the install it hadnt happened in a long time. Well I ended up getting some 21" wheels 2 weeks ago, Factory upgrade options and I was having issues with the TPMS sensors staying paired. So WED I go to the dealer, pull into a space, go talk to a service advisor, they advise me to bring it back tomorrow since it was later in the day, No prob... so I go back out to my car, get in, put it in reverse, start to back out and what happens... Its almost like a popping sound, and you can feel it in the pedals, and it grinds while you continue to back, then its just gone. And funny thing is when the "pop" happens, a couple guys turned their head and looked I hate this crap!

I too have had a grinding noise while going in reverse down a driveway and I know for sure it's not scraping. Last night I got the grinding noise while slowly going backwards but I was in neutral this time which leads me to believe it really is the brakes and not the reverse gear/clutch! I also recently have been getting a high pitch squeeling while moving very slowly in reverse but not even touching the brakes. If I go different speeds in reverse the tone of the squeal changes but if I really speed up to 2-4 mph it stops. :(
edit: the grind noise sounds like an aluminum pan dragging under my car for 2 seconds, it's happened maybe every 3 days or so |

My service manager says it is just the tires moving on asphalt . . . what? And says all Camaros have that problem . . . just could not show me the bulletin . . . if my car could just sprout wings and fly . . . well then . . . no noise! I am going to see if I can reproduce the sound on grass! [Not the California variety.]

Ok, I've noticed this problem for some time now as well. For me it's when I back in to my space when I get home , I have too, or the front touches :( . I pull up, wheels turned left, put it in reverse and maybe 1 to 2 sec after I ease off the clutch and I can hear and feel the popping. The first time I was like "what the hell was that" at the same time as my GF in the passenger seat said. Now it happens less if I wait a few sec after putting it in rev, and try to back up as straight as possible. The more I feel it I tend to think it is something with the ABS.

I've heard it once on my car when backing up with the wheels turned.
My guesses would be - either the tire scuffing across the concrete, or something rubbing on the front rotor. If nothing in the caliper area is real close to the rotor, most likely just the tire scuffing across the ground. |

Possibly not fully in reverse? Gears grind just enough to edge it the final bit into reverse? I have heard it to and I do believe that is the issue.... I just don't want to recreate it :-D

I have the same problem as well...BUT I also noticed that I don't have to be in reverse gear for this to happen...
I tried backing down a driveway in neutral and it made the same sound. All that is needed to make the grinding sound is to be moving backward (down a driveway) and have the wheels turned to the right halfway or so.....anyone else confirm this? |
