Huge difference.

You see....you aren't, through the normal sale of the car, going to be asked to go 155 mph--- they are however going to request you do drive it off the lot.

I contend that buying a car in Canada during the winter months, driving off the lot should be prohibited, just like they won't let you drive off without proof of insurance. (In most states, if not all)

With this huge flaw by GM. You don't have to speed, to break the law, you simply have to drive your OEM car across the threshold of the private lot, onto the public road, and bam, you are breaking the law. No matter what.

I am saying that if the dealer is going to allow you to drive off the lot, they should require you to change the tires first. Otherwise flatbed it home.

Otherwise GM is encouraging you to break the law, and a good lawyer could argue that GM is aiding and abiding you in your unlawful acts. Because they 100% knew that they were selling a product that wasn't fully street legal, but still allowed the person to drive off the lot.

I am all for personal responsibility, but seriously,, Shouldn't you be able to reasonably expect GM to sell you a full street legal car?

Hell for all I know this strange law could be covered in some GM paperwork you sign when purchasing the car, saying that your cars tires are not legal at this current time, and you bare all responsibility to have your tires changed before you leave the lot.... but if they don't then that is the problem....
I believe for new car purchases you get a 7 day grace period to buy the proper tires. In which case you are legal to drive off the lot and given enough time to buy and mount the winter tires.

Very well......

My argument is now baseless. lol.....

I am assuming that during that grace period your "unsafe driving" is also permitted by your insurance company....

That Sucks dude!

BUt if you came out of it OK then the Car is just Metal and can be replaced by insurance.

Every Young kid that is considering a Camaro SS should read this thread, I have been in your situation more times than I like to admit... Road conditions and gobs of HP in RWD cars are always a bad thing!

Good luck!

I think the dealers/GM need to be a bit more receptive to making changes to orders, especially when it comes to tires. I wanted the RS package (just for the HIDs) and ultimately purchased it, however I really did not want the RS performance summer tires. I was told by many different dealerships that they would not accommodate an all season tire with the RS package. Furthermore, GM/dealers should have a package for winter tires in place when you make this purchase.

Hopefully they total the car and give you a good fair market value. Your downpayment will only be lost if they value the car low. I assume being so new and unsure of how many miles you had on your car (maybe you said) you should get near full replacement. Save up a couple months and buy one when prices drop a little and when weather gets better!

I'm going through a similar situation right now. I got a good value for my car and wasn't upside down and found a replacement for a good deal. Definitely sucks losing a car you care so much about. Mine was taken away by a driver not paying attention...

Some dealers are hesitant ( and rightfully so) to change out tires, even model to model, as they can open themselves to liability issues when a car ends up with tires that were different than certified for the car they sell and do not match the sticker label on the door sill.

With CAMARO some one could end up with summer only tires on a car that came with A/S.

If you pay them to do what a tire store should do you will pay more most likely.

An update;

The car was successfully towed to my dealership where it's currently undergoing some serious inspection. Noone knows why the front windshield smashed in the top passenger corner thou I believe it may have been due to debris flying upwards on impact :( . The dealership gave it a 50 50 tossup on whether (killerbee) was salvagable or not.

When the car came in last night to the dealership, my salesman saw it pull in and knew from the windshield logo that it was my Camaro. So he phoned me right away seeing if I was ok. This really cheered me up to know that some salesman actually care about past clientel and that he wanted to know if I was ok. I cannot believe the kindness shown here, thankyou Westgate.

This morning, I spoke on the phone with the actual insurance company. They explained to me what would happen in the near future and what I needed to keep the flow going. Simply put, they explained that if the car was 80% or less of the original cost damaged, the car would be fixed to whatever extent needed. Also, the car may need to be transported back to Oshawa for a complete overall instead of scraping it. This is either really bad news for me or maybe a good thing. If the car is scraped, the deductiable is dropped and thrown back into the claim payout. However, untill the investigator determines the fait of Killer Bee, I sit and wait on it.

For those of you who dont know, my car was rear ended back in November by a 22 year old guy who had no clue what a yield sign was. My head feels like its going to pop from all the stress hence this claim still needs to be settled hopefully to my favour.

It's new years eve, time to go out and relax with friends and family. I wish everyone at Camaro5 a happy new year and drive safely. In Edmonton, the roads are expected to be very very slippery with temperatures expected to reach the -30c mark.

Now I only prey, next year things will get better.

I know this may seem like the end of the world sometimes, but let me tell you its not.

You have to make a decision my brother. You can lie on the ground and suck your thumb or you take action and resolve all that has gone wrong.

You crashed the car. many have crashed their car, insurance has paid out and they got another car. If you didnt have new replacement cost then get another Camaro of similar value.

STOP demeaning yourself. You are a decent human being (as far as I can tell). To me that is everything. You are you because of YOU not because you have a Camaro 2010 to drive.

You WILL get another Camaro. I dont know why you feel you've lost everything. You had an accident. You didnt get in the car and say "Hey, see that tree over there, watch me plow into it".

Get the insurance sorted out, Get another Camaro, and get on these forums posting pics of the new car. Forget the pics of the crashed one, its drepessing and we all have seen enough of those.

One final note, I decided NEVER to drive this beast in the winter. I am addamant about that, maybe you may reconsider that too.

All the best. We are all here for moral support but you gotta change your mind frame.

Rooting for you buddy!

This takes all liability away from the dealer or GM. Good find

Sorry to hear about your car - glad to hear that you are ok though! I hope 2010 is a happy one for you.
Mine arrived in town earlier in the week...it's still at the dealership...it is being flatbedded to my house at some point. I can't afford to risk it.

Keep you chin up!

Shaun,
Take the little glimmer of hope that was given to you, and keep it in mind, I think come the new year things are going to rebound in your favor. It sounds like no one has written you and/or your car off yet, so hold the faith.

taking it to oshawa and giving it a complete overhaul seems like a good idea to me... since they have all the parts and such there
