That puts it square in the entry level Corvette range ($48,930 MSRP). Not sure how the two would stack up performance-wise but IF I had that kind of money to spend my preference would be the vette.

I'm pretty certain that the Corvette would be the better performer, however, I don't know too many people in the market for a GT500 that cross-shop a Corvette.

In the world of logic it would be the Corvette and SRT8s. Obviously the Challenger fails miraculously against the GT500. I recall a Mustang guy saying something about Shelby always going after the Corvette, so I guess that means they're cross-shopped lol.

In my case, I have two children, so I wanted a performance-oriented car that they could ride in when we go to local cruise-ins or track events. That ruled out a Viper, Corvette or any other two-seater right off the bat. In other cases, folks were die-hard Ford guys and would never even consider a Corvette no matter how much more performance they got for their money. In yet other cases, folks were looking to buy a musclecar, not a sportscar. |

Congrats on the purchase. Did you end up getting the red/silver combo your spoke about? If so, you have a twin to mine.

Now, I understand that you want me to say that the GT500 is "in a class by itself" but that is not going to happen. Because it is not. Whether you agree or not, the SRT8 is certainly in the same "class" as the GT500. While most would disagree, the Camaro SS is also in its "class" as the highest performance version of a GM-produced ponycar currently offered. |
