I was lucky enough to buy my house when I turned 23 and bought this beautiful car later in the year. I couldnt feel more blessed. And everyone still gives me crap about how I should of invested the money else where when I had a paid off Truck. I just ignore it and take it as a sign of jealousy and envy, because it is true there is a lot of successful young people at our age.

Now is the best time to buy a piece of property, while the interest rates and property values are down. House values are somewhat cyclical, they will come back soon enough. They are pretty rock bottom depending on where you live. In my area the house prices went down about 20%, but they were up 200% in 6 years. Crowded area's like NY are all supply and demand, and there is always demand since most area's around the city are already built up.
I moved out of my house at 23 and at 40 still own my own house with 3 cars. It takes time either way. Wether you buy a car first and a house second or visa versa. It is all the money wasted on partying that will get you nowhere. You should look in your area for condo's or a small townhouse and start with that. Get the interest while it is good, because in this recession, we will be over 10% in the next 2 years.......believe me!

if I had to do it again, I would have gotten a loft.
It appreciates faster, no yard work, and more fun. It's just me, my wife, and someday a kid...not like we need a huge home. |

You talk like I am some loser who lives at home because I made a bunch of bad decisions? and that I am boring by sitting on a Camaro board all day. Yet you feel your a much better person because you like to read post and call people pathetic and boring yet your sitting here doing the same thing... reading the forums. If you really must know, yes my relationship did cost me quite a bit of money, and being unemployed made it difficult to get out of that debt, but I have, with the exception of my two car loans I am completely debt free. I do help my parents pay for things here, I pay my own food, and help pay utilities when I can. I do some contract work, but it is not enough to afford to buy a home currently. I am an unemployed Job Captain in the field of Architecture working to get my license. In case you don't know the unemployment rate is extremely high, for my line of work it is at somewhere near 40% nationwide. Of all the people I know in the industry I would say a good 40% of them are unemployed. SO before you go spouting crap out of your mouth about something you have no clue about, why don't you learn a little more about the situation. I would also like to add that while my father is working out of town until he can get relocated back up here. I am here to help maintain the house. Believe me if I had the choice I would have a house especially now with the incentives out there. But, taking an extremely huge pay cut tends to cut into your way of life. I have tried to sell one of my vehicles (just in case you ask) but it seems the market is not so well for private party vehicle sales right now either, and I refuse to take a $6k dollar kick in the pants for a vehicle I would like to keep and can afford to keep even if it means living with mommy and daddy (as you say) to pay for it, for the time being. I also happen to have an extremely good relationship with my parents, my family in general. I use to share rent with my sister even when she could not afford to live on her own, does that make me a bad person? No it means I love my family and I do what I can to take care of them, such is the case with having a third car loan in my name so that my sister has a vehicle to drive, along with having her and her kids on my cell phone plan so that I can keep in touch with them... again you speak as if you know me but yet you don't know Jack S&%t... My parents are elderly I am the youngest, and I plan to take care of them now and in the future as they have taken care of me from birth. Again if that makes me pathetic and a loser, in your mind, I don't really give a rats @$$ because I feel it is my duty as their only son to make sure they are taken care of. I appreciate them greatly for all they have done for me over my life, and I return the favor all the time. My current situation is not purely a take situation I give in return. Once I begin to work again full time it is my every intention to purchase a home, and to repay my parents for any other cost they may have incurred during my stay with them. So please next time, think about what you say before you say it. It only makes you look bad for putting others down just to try and make yourself look better.

Don't worry about what other's say and make your own decisions. I could see my SS and spend that $$$ elsewhere but I don't want to.

Unless your job is permanent and secure and you plan to have children and get married, there's really no need to buy a house.

Great point. I SHOULD drink so many glasses of milk or eat so many servings of fruit a day, or get 8 hours of sleep every night... but do I? Nope, not usually.
