Gratz on the change.

Rarely do you hear people say more power is a bad thing. In my case it truly was a no-brainer. The 69 I have was purchased off a Chevy lot, in April of '70. It had been traded in for an SS by an old lady who "thought the 6cyl was a bit underpowered" for her (true story). There is rarely a day that goes by that he doesn't regret getting the SS or the Z. I wll not make the same mistake. And besides... this isn't "just a car" to me, this is "THE" car I have been waiting 30 years for.

After I changed my order, I was still uneasy. I can afford anything I want within reason. But I also like a value. I'm not going to race it on the street or strip. It is going to be an every day driver. I just want a car that looks good and sounds good and goes reasonably fast. The 2lt does that for about $7000 less than the 2ss. Am I going to have the fastest car in town? NO. Am I going to have a car that looks good, sounds good, is fast, and is fun to drive? HELL YES.

So...............I changed my order back to the 2lt, and I have had no 2nd thoughts.

When I take delivery of the car, if it dissapoints me I can sell it in the future and get the SS, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Now when the vert comes out............................................... .........lol

If performance is an important factor for you, then I'd recommend getting an SS.

For its class the V6 Camaro is going to be plenty competitive, however if it means waiting an extra 6 months to save up for an SS, it'll all be worth the wait in the end, trust me.

Most of the people that are planning to purchase a V6 Camaro aren't getting it for the performance, they are getting it for the affordability, and just for the pleasure of having a decent performing and somewhat fuel efficient vehicle (of course not all)

but.... I can say this for sure. You'll be happier with a V8, and you don't want to regret your decision afterward thinking I should have gotten a V8, later down the road...

If there are people out there that are planning on getting the V6 for performance they will be sorry in the long run. If you are in this for the pure thrill and all out performance and mpg, space, options, etc aren't as high on the priority it has to be SS or nothing.

If you aren't too interested in overall performance and you are just happy that the car will have an engine and it goes when you press the gas, then get the V6

True but to maintain perf/speedo/odo settings you will need to make sure the wheel/tire combo is the same or very close to the same as the stock tire size so you will have to go with a higher profile tire or recalibrate and that adds to the cost. but this should be a post in itself.

I ordered the 2LT/RS with Automatic. I have many friends who are mechanics and are impressed by the initial specs of the V-6. 300HP ? Of course, one friend keeps trying to talk me into the SS. My reply was, buy your own(lol). Gas as a rule, won't always be lower, so since this will be my every day drive, its the V-6 for me. If your buying for collectors value, then spend away and hope your ride value makes you money. So go with your instinct as others have said

Buying a V6 Camaro would never enter my mind, but I know that everyone is different and I can totally understand all the reasons why a lot of buyers are going to opt for the V6. What I cannot understand is someone buying the V6, and then spending $thousands modding it. Does that make sense?

I'm not talking about spending a few hundred bucks on mods - that's certainly cool, you personalize your car, and you've still saved thousands off the price of the V8 model. I'm talking about doing engine, brake, and/or suspension mods that cost $3K-$6K or more, and in the end, you still aren't close to the V8 performance you could have had in the first place if you went for the SS. Am I crazy or are they?

It's funny that no one seems worried about gas prices. I think what we saw this past summer is just a taste of what is to come. Would anyone really be shocked if a year or two from now we are paying $5+ a gallon for gas? I think that's where we are headed. Gas prices will go up, and who knows what we will be paying for gas. With that said, I am getting the fully loaded 2LT RS package because I love the car period! I can afford to buy a fully loaded SS if I want to, but I refuse to shell out the money for premium gas knowing it could go well over $5 a gallon in the very near future. But hey, this is America, and we have the right to do as we please with our money, so go for it if thats your thing. My very first car was a 1967 Camaro that I paid cash for in 1970. I worked my last yr in high school, and was able to save enough ($1400) to buy a 327 Camaro. I have owned one other since, and fell in love with the "concept" car when I saw it. What a great job they did on bringing back a beautiful Camaro. Be true to yourself, and buy what you really want! Can't wait to drive mine :o)

Paying an extra $50-$100 bucks a month on gas, higher car payments by about $200 and an extra insurance premium of about $1,000 is worth it in the end when you are driving something you can fully enjoy and not be in the back of your mind wondering what you're missing... It's obviously not all about speed but handling as well as the SS will handle a whole lot better than the V6. The car will feel like a totally different beast.. A fully loaded 2LT/RS will cost about the same as the base SS which makes it a difficult decision for some. If all you want is an average car with looks that kill and more power than a standard V6, then go with the 2LT. If you crave excitement when you drive and dream of hearing the revving of a powerful V8 or the strong gurgle when it is sitting still.. Then there is no choice other than buying the monster SS..

My V6 decision was made for gas mileage, gas prices, monthly payment and insurance premiums. For me, there is no sense in owning this car, throwing my golf clubs in the trunk and driving to the golf course when I won't be able to afford the green fees.

With a Camaro, and a V6, I still get 300hp, RWD, tires that smoke, and American Heritage. And I will look good too

I guess the way I see it is if the economy can turn around in 2 years and oil goes way back up to cause $5 gas then it is $5 for regular and $5.15 for super. At that point whats the difference. And I think the V6 will only get about 2 mpg better then the SS (driven conservatively for both) in the long run. For me I have a 2.7 mile commute to work and usually can go 11-15 days on one tank in my Legacy GT that aready requires super.

For me differential gas price and 2 mpg isn't a concern. But with oil trading in the $65 range now and the world economy crushed which makes the US Dollar much stronger, I don't see oil going up too fast since it will take the world a while to come out of this. And the SS should get better highway MPG then my current 4 banger subaru that can only get like 26-28 tops in 5th gear

I'm identical to you and I've done a lot of thinking about this. If i were to get the V6, i would CONSTANTLY wish i had a V8. I have a V6 now and hate the fact i drive a V6, and i get it from friends too. The point of having a nice car is to impress. When people say "who cares what other people think about you?". I would only listen to them if they were driving a car that barely ran. People that drive luxury or sports car care a lot about what other people think about the car.

So my answer is, either get the V8 or get nothing, and save until you can afford the V8.
Not really people here when they have a luxry car or sports car it doesn't matter if people like it everyone has their own opinion. If your getting a car to impress people that's the wrong motive. There not the ones buying the car you are. If people wanna compare it to cars like a cobalt ss no offenece the cobalt isn't a really nice looking car at all. It doesnt stop people from buying it though. So after all this typing get a car you'll have fun with not something to impress, and another thought the v6 camaro owns the gt's and the srt8 challenger by looks interior and exterior. Who cares if its slower my dad has lots of fast cars and we don't race them at all.

The Cobalt is better looking that it's competition (Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla).
