I think they need to give the magizines a cgm SS to test so we have both the color we want and the test numbers we crave !!!

Relax Mutant. Not everyone wants CGM, otherwise it would have earned 10 in the color poll instead of 7.

Doesn't matter what color the media gets for review, as long as the car is an SS. The crowd here is interested in the performance numbers and general driving impressions. The rest is all subjective.

Even though its February, full production doesn't start for 6 weeks.
Please read what has been said. The magazine embargoes were set months ago. GM has a history of timing releases with magazine features.

The March issue of Car And Driver has a short review of the Pontiac G8 GXP. The one they tested was a 6-speed manual and has the LS3 engine, so the drivetrain is pretty much the same as the SS. The car weighs in at 3980 lbs, so it's 100 lbs heavier than the reported SS weight. They didn't specify the rear axle gearing, which is important, but nonetheless here are the numbers:

0-60 4.7 seconds
1/4 mile 13.3 sec @ 109 mph

That's a slow quarter??? Wow I thought it would get their in 13 at least... Jeez their's dudes in Challenger R/T's putting down 13.1 in the quarter bone stock... The SRT can get down to 12.9 and i've some 12.8's..
4.7 is a fast 0-60 but the SRT's putt that down... R/T's are putting down 5.1 in the 0-60 and 13.1 -13.3 all day... What's the GXP waiting for?? To pull??

Which means even earlier than that. I got my March 'Hot Rod' around Jan 20th. Don't know why they do that. Got my 'Motor Trend' March issue in January too. Their for my lobby for clients to read. Business subscription. Maybe that's why.

36 days and counting, still no performance numbers. If my company was in the straits GM was, I would be out there with real data...

Could someone who shares these thoughts explain exactly what releasing those number would do for a car that won't be at dealerships for roughly 2 months?

I guess numbers don't mean anything no more.

Won't it mean more when people can actually go out and drive one?

people like us buy cars based on performance #'s... And looks... I don't know what else someone would be looking for... maybe gas mileage but there all about the same...
I mean we are going through muscle car wars 2.0 right?

I want to see some performance numbers to but when you look at the preorder situation it's obvious that there's plenty of time to get the road tests complete long before they have even the preorders built, so there's absoloutely no reason for GM to rush anything but perfect cars to the testers.
