Completely agree. I should just buy her an old beater truck that's freaking huge, and buy me another car.

A lot of emphasis on steel in that ad and based on the comments by Mark Reuss, GM doesn't think buyers will "value" an aluminum cab. With oil (gas) prices headed down, looks like Ford's gamble may prove to be a miss.

What she has seen of the Colorado and Canyon she loves. Just not enough. Women
At least your garage will fit either truck.

My dad wants a Canyon but even an Extended Cab is too long for their garage.

I'll be interested to see if the 2.7L EcoBoost + aluminum body does anything for the F-series in the real world.

Pretty sure GM already confirmed that their next Full size trucks are going aluminum.

Take it for what is worth, from what I have been reading on forums from the people that have driven the 2.7 the trip computer has shown anywhere from 23-26MPG on the highway. MT got a combined 19MPG, and 22MPG on the hwy in their 4x4, compared to the 20MPG combined and 24MPG on the highway for the Colorado 4x4 v6. Thats a full size truck thats more capable that is almost as efficient. (in the same article the Silverado 5.3 got 19HWY and 15 combined)

Now I am still very curious to see more real world results. But everyone that has driven the 2.7 says it is extremely impressive in how much power it has, but not many have had enough time to really see how the MPG is.

I don't think it will stay down for long...

I'm still waiting for some of the Colorado/Canyon trucks to show up at my local dealer... Looks like the finally got at least one down there, with two more on order, but the one there, and the two on order are all 2wd *sigh*

A miss? How is better MPG/Payload/Overall performance a miss? This wasnt just about the MPG's.

Finally saw one in person. 4 door Gray Z71 short bed. Very nice. Saw a similar Canyon in black and they wanted 38K for it. Canyon looks very classy but still prefer the Colorado.

I think the point was it may not make sense economically for Ford. The cost of aluminum is about 2x the cost of steel, and if they can't translate that into higher transaction prices for the trucks, then it is a miss. Of course there are significant benefits to building the truck out of aluminum for the end user, but at the end of the day they did it to try and increase market share and prices. If that doesn't happen then all they did was cut their margins.

I remember seeing a while back that GM purchased a light weight steel or aluminum factory for the purpose of reducing weight. Quite sure this will be their next step in gas savings.

Some Pics from the Houston Auto show. Got to test drive one.

This Maroon color is growing on me. It's got everything except 4X4 and the White is bare bones.
