Something wrong where you folks live? It was 60 degrees here today and I have a sunny orange colored one. Worked up a sweat walking to my car. Must be global warming! :P

We are still iced in. I am going to take my wife's van to work tomorrow. Still a lot of ice on the roads.

What tires did you get for Elvira?

My wife made me take her van today since the roads still have ice on them in spots. What are summer tires anyway? I have always had all season tires on my cars.

Happy Sunny Warm Morning from So Cal

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen!
Orange Krate is preparing for his first oil change and lubrication etc. I have posted a reference on my thread regarding Royal Purple lubrication products that you may want to look at if you are going to use their products. Just trying to save you some time and hunting if you don't already have the info. Have a great day. It is too nice here to be inside today! Ya'll have a good, safe weekend!

We ended up with Yokohama Prada XSpecs. Handles great and has some awesome cold weather traction. Sorry for the late response.

Did you stay with the same sizes? They look pretty good. What others did you look at? I am just now starting to look.

Thanks.

Stayed with stock sizes. Didn't want to spend a ton on tires. The Yokos are on the affordable side. I finally got to drive her yesterday and actually like the feel of the Yokos more than the Pirellis. Granted it's freezing outside and has been since we got it so that may have something to do with the poor handling of the Pirellis. I dunno. They may go back on in the spring, but I like the yokos for all season.

TRANSMISSION ISSUE

Hi folks of 11/15... just to keep you in the loop, if you have a manual transmission in your SS you may want to follow my thread "Birth of Orange Krate". Seems my boy has come with a factory defect in the transmission. I have been reading the threads on transmissions and from day one I have been having a heck of a problem with 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts. At first I thought it was a stiff, new trans or me. Now that I have driven the car for 30 days and put on 1800 miles I know it is neither.

Symptoms: Occasional grind (I try to avoid this!) going into second. First to second shift is difficult and it feels like it is hitting a stop point and you have to pull the shifter towards you and then pull back into second. Second to third shift is essentially same as first to second. As you push the shifter into neutral and then head towards third it hits what feels like a stop and then you have to push the shifter to the right a little more and then up. (For lack of a better term, it feels like a double gate).

I have been reading one particular thread that says that this may be headed for a TSB and that Tremec already has a fix which includes a new synchro and synchro retainer. This is UNVERIFIED but is worth the mention. My dealer is now aware of this issue and is working on research for me before we dig into the transmission or whatever is required.

It is EXTREMELY frustrating when you set your expectation so high for a vehicle, you read for years about the development of this car, you get one after so long and then it has a hiccup like this. I know it will get better with time but it sure makes me question why I didn't buy an automatic...but then that could be screwy too. SO... Orange Krate remains PARKED until I can get a handle on what is going on so that I don't do any damage.

PS... I am still smelling burning oil and on occasion some electrical burning smell! I have gotten under the car and looked thoroughly and see NO leaks, no obvious burned wires, everything works and I havent seen any warning codes or signs. Maybe INFERNO Orange is truly a literal name for the car. I am also wondering if there is some sort of leak at the snout of trans and thus causing some of these issues?? Input appreciated.

PSS - Happy MLK Day

I have also seen a couple of other mentions in other threads in passing discussion about choosing an aftermarket shifter (because the owner thought the shifter was bad!!!) IT IS A SYNCHRO/SYNCHRO RETAINER ISSUE from what I can tell thus far...IMHO.
