I hope they trash this piece of crap FOB.
Can't stand my doors and trunk popping open at random anymore.

Guess we will not know until the first C5 member gets it done.

Angrybird is completely right. The recall is still quite new and therefore the VINs are not yet associated, but will be in the near future. If your Camaro does fall under the Safety Recall, you will receive a letter in the mail containing the appropriate steps to take for repair. I apologize for the delay on this, but the letters will be out as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to PM us with further questions.

Any news on the stop sale and when that'll be over? I lost my patience Friday.

The thing about this recall is it isn't about safety. If it was every vehicle with the switchblade key fob would be recalled. It's about being "proactive" about an ignition issue to save face. This quote says it all.

Quote:
“Discovering and acting on this issue quickly is an example of the new norm for product safety at GM,” said Jeff Boyer, vice president of GM Global Safety.
It's all about someone's bonus. At best it's a dog and pony show. I bet they even did a cost analysis and determined the Camaro would be the cheapest vehicle to fix with this issue.

On one of the automotive websites it took someone several tries to turn off a Camaro. I did it in one try with a regular key on a 2014 Silverado.

Two different dealerships and neither knew anything about any recall for the Camaro. Entered my Vin and it showed NOTHING!

My dealership told me that there is no recall on this issue.

I understand the problem however I cant bring myself to justify GM's solution to the problem.

As an engineer, I feel this is very unethical that engineers/designers overlooked this problem years ago.

And of course GM won't answer their phone.

Some people feel passionate about keeping the things they paid for. Some people don't mind having something they paid for being taken away and replaced by an inferior product for a reason that very few can reliably recreate in a controlled situation.

Everyone is different.

yeah someone in Ford, took one of the Camaro's out for a test drive and decided .. gee I really like this car, so how can I screw with them. Then they sat down and
figured out... if we say that our knee could remotely hit the key, and then possibly ...,
we could then set Gm back another 10million dollars and then we might have a chance to improve Fords top line over and above the competition. Really, the key issue, is like saying, if I driving, and I sneeze, I could potential blind my windshield with bs and snot and hit a bridge. So people believe what they wish right?.

I don't recall...

Well, more correctly, I am not planning to participate in the Camaro recall over ignition switches. It seems to me that the ignition switch recall issue with the Camaro is freakin' nanny- state overkill. Not blaming GM... they pretty much have no choice in going ape- freakin'- bonkers silly over these things... the litigious society we live in will eventually render every possible collection of atoms in the Universe a 'safety hazard' worthy of a lawsuit.

However, not being ENTIRELY ignorant of the possibility of Danger Danger Danger, I decided to see just how easily I might kick my ignition to the "off" position. It doesn't seem likely that it would ever happen accidentally, but, hey, maybe so.

While driving, I snugged my seat up just as far as it would go. My 6"2" lank was pretty crowded up on that steering wheel... it was very intimate. I wondered if I could even drive the car that way, sort of how Tommy Lee drove the boat around Havasu with Mizz Pamela. Alas, even my attempts to honk the horn, Lee- style, apparently fell short. Maybe this was simply because I had chosen to wear pants today. Whatever.

So, then I tried working the ignition with my knee. I really did give it the ol' college try, too. But, my conclusion is that one must possess a prehensile knee, and use that prehensile knee to make a deliberate effort to grasp the key fob and give it a twist. I do not possess a prehensile knee... even still, I made all kinds of attempts to twist the fob one way or the other, to no avail. I bumped, I grinded (I know, "ground" was a more proper word, but "grinded" just seemed more appropriate, by being inappropriate), I thrusted, I think I even canoodled, although I am not completely sure what canoodling is. The car just kept going and going and going... Energizer Bunny style.

So, for me, I'll just live with the compromised safety status of my car. I will advise passengers not to kick the soccer ball around inside the car, will not allow monkeys free roam of the car while driving, and if I choose to let anybody else drive the thing, I will INSIST that they have an IQ of at least double digits, with the first digit preferably being at least a "6." Children under five will hardly ever be allowed to drive it... and when I am driving, I will repeat the mantra, "Don't turn the key off while driving... don't turn the key off while driving..." And so forth. I think I can do this.

If I do crash because I was somehow able to grasp the key fob with my prehensile knee and give it a good 90 degree counterclockwise twist while being unable to figure out how to UNDO it, let this post serve as GM's defense should it ever end up in court (just print this, bring it in to court, and you automatically win). Let the record show that I have chosen to live like an uncivilized hillbilly/ wildman, responsible for my own actions, with the car that I bought, and that I have chosen to leave what I think is pretty well, alone.
