Well, not that I'm going to do this right away, but I ordered the corvette vented caliper pistons for the ZL1 caliper (front 6). I wanted to have them on hand as I start doing more 'tracking', I'll want to get this in when I do the front caliper rebuild. You know how it goes, get it while you can and before supply dries up.

For those of you who are interested, this is the part number (you'll need 2 sets):

23242510

http://www.iamgmparts.com/oe-gm/23242510

Venting will drop it about 86°F

Here is a thread on this upgrade (caliper or pistons):

Diff's @ GPI and Mikey is going to work on it. Talked to Aaron -- looks like GPI may be doing complete diffs with EATONS and Gears of choice! Exchange diff ready to go (+ core). 3.91s and 3.73s (maybe 3.45s). Send yours in, get a ready to install diff!

Sounds like a good idea!

Got the diff home! Will be installing that bad boy tomorrow - will show some pics of the diff. The LPW really looks like it will strengthen the diff!

Can't wait...

Hendrix Offset Diff Bushing Install

Diff install day! Get everything ready, bolts cleaned for the axles, axle hubs cleaned, threads chased, new axles seals, hubs popped in place nicely, ready for install!:

Unboxing Eaton:

After GPI did their magic:

Hendrix:

LPW:

New Axle Seals and seal tool:

Old seal and its removal:

Installed:

Axle Hubs installed popped them in, could not pull them out:

Ready to install. Everything was going smoothly, axles aligned, diff was going up straight, ready to line up the holes -- light bang -- what the heck?

Tried to line up the rear diff bushing, bang. Got the light took a look -- what do I see?

SLAG from poor welds! -- A LOT OF IT:

Its hitting here:

Right @ the curve. UGH, it figures ;o)

I'll need to get the little grinder/dremel and grind those off, clean them, PAINT them and, retest the fit. I'm going to grind a little on the curved area just to make sure.

Part of modding...

Humm... I may be doing something no one else has...

Hendrix offset bushings and LPW cover.. Seeing some clearance issues. I'll need to contact Hendrix about that and LPW about grinding for clearance...

Fun!

How about this: Called LPW to leave a message, and someone actually answered - on a Saturday @ 4 EST! Amazing.

I did find out they recently changed the 'arc' on the rear cover. Now sports a 1/4 moon curve vs 45° for the G8 installs of our diffs. I don't think it's an issue UNLESS you are using the Hendrix bushings;o)

They asked me to mark and measure how much I have to remove, so I'm going for flat and 45°. Glad this is NOT the pained version.

Before I do that, gonna remove the SLAG from the cradle...

Hendrix Offset Diff Bushing Install Continued

OK, using my air grinder and the Dremel, I was able to clean this up:

Tools:

Yep, it ground it to nothing -- took off 3/8" of SLAG:

Area cleaned up...

I measured from the center bolt hole on the cradle to where the 'edge' interference was -- its 3/4", so, I'll grind about 1" length on the cover to allow clearance.

Now, the rear bushing area on the original is 3 1/8" tall and its flat. The LPW is 3 1/14" tall before the taper and then rises to 4" (remember it '1/4' moons it ;o)

So, I'll grind it 45° so it tapers around an 1" out. Here, in red, is what I need to grind off to make sure I have clearance:

Here is the first Gen cover -- notice it is angled and not 'rounded'? That I believe is the issue...

Now the current version:

Now, need to get some primer and black paint for the cradle!
