I got the key out of the plastic easy enough. I just can't get the roll pin to go into the hole. Even when I crimp one side so that it comes together to make a complete circle, it is still too big. And I am using a 1/16" pin.

it should be very snugged. make sure you have the key turn the right way and you may have to get a hammer a tap it a little bit

I would find a locksmith. I had to purchase a replacement fob and the dealer wanted almost $200 for for the fob(including programming). I bought the fob from eBay for $36 and had a locksmith cut and program it for $25. Programming the fob took about 10 seconds. The stealership wamted to charge me $50 for 10 seconds of work.

I just never brought mine in for the recall. I bet I got 8-10 recall notices
which have finally stopped. Still have both of my factory keys, one I never opened.

My Dealer did the recall reverse NO CHARGE:

I bought 2 key blade blanks on ebay. Brought the factory fobs I got with the car to the dealer with the key blade blanks. Dealer cut the key blade blanks (can use key code they get via VIN lookup) and they installed them in the fobs - they had some spare roll pins to lock the blades in to the fob with (ones they had removed from others that had recall done). As pointed out earlier the blade is directional, if installed backwards the switchblade won't close all the way and latch.
Now I have two functional fobs with blades installed and two separate spare keys -- 4 keys total with no bill from the dealer.

Interesting, my local dealer charged me $20 for the (key code VIN lookup) said they had to call GM and GM charges this. Anyone heard of this??

You need to purchase the pin - 1/16" or .062 x 3/8 long/5/16 long.

If there is a lock Smith or dealer worried about cutting a key for your car since the key was recalled, to cover them just say it's for the chevy equinox.
Same key and fob is used on both cars.
I have punched new fobs from the dealer with the blank still in and a local lock Smith cuts them for me..

Programing..

As long as you have one working key you can program the new ones as followed

Put the original key into the ignition, turn to on position till it beeps twice then turn it off and put the new key in immediately after, again turning to the on position and after a few beeps the emobilizer light goes out.
Done
