Yeah, a little bit of me agrees with all of you.
Either way...I'm getting a Z, high-end or Mid-range...I don't care. I want to be able to say "That's my Z-28" Wanna Mess? I wouldn't call the Z the luxury end because of the leather seats...I would consider that the sporty end: You need leather seats cause with that kind of Z-28 power under your ass, your bound to crap yourself - the mess would soak into cloth seats; therefore Leather offers quicker cleanup! made that up myself |

Whatever I get, even if it's a 600HP rainbow gay pride edition Camaro, I will be getting it loaded. I like my creature comforts, especially considering that mine will be driven on the street and on long trips. I'd save a stripper model for a track car.

I agree but not with the rainbow gay pride edition, if that is an option I think I will pass. I want HUGH HP #'s and I want to be comfortable as I blow past the ricers and mustangs.

As going back to the main topic: I understand why all of you like the SS name cause of its history with the camaro but i think chevy is overdoing it with the SS badges. If they put a few more horses in a car they call it a SS. Z-28 sounds cooler and isnt over used.
Thats funny from me cause I love my dads new Impala SS. |

Im kinda torn on this subject. nowadays chevy is slapping SS on erthang. hell we got a SS cobalt. if I said I have a 02 Z28 you would know exactly what Im talking about. but SS dosent have the same meaning as it used to. thats just my 2 cents

I also agree that the SS nameplate has lost some of its power mystique by being slapped on almost every vehicle in Chevy’s line up. It's kinda like when Carrol Shelby was letting Mopar put the Shelby name on a 1986 Dodge Omni for crying out loud.
http://www.petersen.org/default.cfm?...D=264&index=11 I think that diluted the Shelby image. And then there was the Shelby Dodge Daytona...a pile of steaming dog pooh. I'm not say that Chevy was done as bad with SS overload as Shelby allowed with hs good name, but the SS nameplate can be and probably has been diluted as a result of its over-use. It’s gotta be the “Z”….. and not necessarily followed by a 28, if you know what I mean. JWz28. |

I don't care what they call it, as long as people say "man, that's fast!!"

Yeah, foremost I want heads to turn...But nowadays, people don't appreciate Z-28 for what it is...they understand Z06, and thier Jaw drops at the mention of the word...I would like to see that effect with Z-28, again.
Having said that, SS has been overused - but Lutz, and Chevy has promised to lay down the SS cattle prod for a while. They said their going to start taking it easy. To me, SS on a Camaro alway meant that little extra push in the "Wow" direction, not a completely seperate designation. Soo, I guess whatever it is, it better have that Wow factor - or I might as well buy a V6  |

Chances are that there will be both Z28 and SS. But it's the question of who's on top, and how far above - that's plagueing us. Theres a thread devoted to it. "Z28 vs SS" or something like that - this isn't really the place for Trim info.

what really is getting to me is, for people like me who want the top of the top be it the z28 or the ss, everyone is insinuating that it wont come out till 1 year after the first camaros. SO thats basicly 2010 till we can get into the 550 HP edition, i personally PRAY that this doesnt happen like that and you get the 550 edition a few months later, or even order it.
Also what is the guesstimated price on the ss or z28 im thinking 40ish. |

There has been no reports of a 550 hp Camaro, especially not as a mainstream car. My reasoning that there will NOT be mainstream 550 hp Camaro is that the LS7 and the LS2 are dead. So the only engine in the arsenal worth putting in the car with that much power: the LS3 S/C, also known as the LS9. However, all the reinforcement required to S/C that thing will really jack up the engine's cost. So it slowly inches out of Camaro territory. Unless Camaro comes out with a special edition, low-production, high priced model...the "GT500 fighter" that people have been refering to...then it probably WILL be released a year or two after the Car's initial release. And it will probably sit somewhere in the $40k range. But it will NOT be a Z28 or SS. I would stake my life on that. as for SS/Z28 prices, I think we can expect 30,000. But That's niether here nor there. Refer to the "actual Camaro pricing" thread for lots more info on that note!! |

If the release of the '09 Camaros is anything like the original 1967 debut, the SS would be available pretty much from day one, in 67 the Z/28 was a few months after the original release. And it could be that it will be a completely different situation from '67, we really don't have a clue what Chevy's intentions are at this point.

The SS nameplate is so diluted and abused. I PRAY that they keep the Z/28 the top dog.
I mean, I was still a little bit of an SS fan until I was driving my SS Camaro one day, and pulled up next to a Cobalt with an SS nameplate and an Ecotec under the hood....give me a break Chevy. V6, SS, Z/28...the only logical order. And this isnt to say I wont buy another SS, but it has to mean something...something like LS3 |
