I agree. I've been riding motorcycles since I was old enough to walk, so about the last 20 years. I felt like I was very experienced, never spilling or hitting anything, in all that time. Last summer, I laid my bike down for the first time, which was completely my fault. Sure, experience will CYA 99% of the time, but it doesn't make you perfect. You still make mistakes, just less of them.

Spellcheck does little for your grammar, and misuse of words. Like that ellipsis, entirely inappropriate, but MS Word sure isn't going to tell you that. And talking down to people that grew up before spell check really isn't very becoming of a 17 year old.

Edit: sorry for the double post.

THIS! Riding a motorcycle will also teach you really quick that skills aren't everything. Luck is a big part of it, and I've learned this many times when I started riding. It also seems that those that are killed in cars and bikes are either cocky macho wannabe dudes, or squiddy teens that don't know how to ride.

It's sad..

Agreed. Granted, often motorcycle accidents are not the rider's fault, but the vehicles around them. However, squids have a much higher percentage of being severely injured or killed. Tshirt and shorts? Are you nuts? When I went down I had a leather jacket, leather gloves, and Kevlar reinforced pants. Popped up without a scratch on me.

The same goes for performance vehicles. Those ill-equipped to handle the power are much more prone to accidents. Its just the facts of the statistics. I'm only 22, and realize I fall into a "high risk" category. I will use this to force myself to remain extra careful, and prove the statistics wrong.

how did this thread go from a friendly, "hey any teens out there getting a 2SS, if so how are you going to get it, and what kind" to "(grumpy old man) "damn kids cant drive, they dont deserve this car, only we do"

I dont take offense to most of what was said here, since I am one of those kids who has been busting my ass off to get this car. And guess what, Im still not even close. Im I Jealous of some of the kids getting one from mommy and daddy, yes. Do I think that that automaticly makes them bad drivers, and won't respect the car. NO. I have a friend that got an 06 mustang GT from his parents. Its a great car. And guess what, he drives like a grandma. Never had a ticket, accident, or anything. again, sure I wish my parents could cough up 20 or 30 grand, but they cant.

Anyway, Im tired of the prejudice against teen drivers thinking that they cant drive. sure you have the dittsy girls driving hummers, smashing everything, and the doush bag in the beemer flying off the line at every light, but I would bet that Ive done more J turns in a car (safely) than most people here. Also I would bet that I have fixed more things on a car than most people here. Ever changed a head gasket by yourself at 16, cause I did.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but when i get my car, that i worked my ass off, I dont want people saying oh hes so young, someone bought it for him, or oh give it two weeks before he smashes.

Hmmm, so because your parents/grandparents work hard for their money means you're not spoiled? Now I'm not saying that you are, but my parents make decent money, they have worked very hard for there money, you know what i got from them? No college paid, no car or insurance paid, but the best advice in the world, if you want something in your life you work for it. You work your arse off for it.

I put myself through college working 3 jobs at some points, have no student loans as a result of it. And when I save up enough money to afford the camaro I'm going to have the greatest sense of pride you couldn't understand.

Morale of the story, forgive some of us "guys" for for perhaps thinking you're a little spoiled.

i am fortunate that my parents are helping me get my 2lt...i am grateful they provided me with a house food etc i have so much respect for them ...right now im in college full time and when im not studying or at school im working my butt off around the house taking care of my chores and going that extra mile to do things that arent even asked of me...my first car was a 69 camaro i gave it up to pay back my dad for damages i caused to his truck because yes i made a mistake couldnt see and back into it in order to pay for my idiot mistake i handed him the title to my camaro(one of the hardest things ive ever done).....non of my friends think im spoiled because instead of hanging out with them on a saturday im doing things around the house for my parents

just because parents are helping there kids out to get this car or even buying it for them doesnt mean there spoiled....when someone hands me a gift i cherish that gift...this camaro is one gift that i will cherish for the rest of my life

sorry for the rant but we really dont know what these teenagers do in there lives to deserve this car

congrats to those of you who are getting help with/or are getting your ride paid for by someone else. i dont know that i would call you "spoiled" more like fortunate or blessed. seems like "spoiled" tends to be a word jealous people like to throw around. i dont think anyone in here can honestly say they wouldnt take a brand new camaro if someone offered it to them.

why does it matter how old anyone is getting a new camaro? Its not like the car they are getting was going to be yours, just seems like a lot of jealous people on here cant handle it.

My sentiments exactly. I know I'd be scared sh*tless if the first car I ever owned was a 426 HP RWD manual muscle car worth $35k+.
