I haven't had a chance in the past day or two to mess around with the catch can but tomorrow night I might try a couple things with the hoses. I'll report back after and if I can't resolve it I'll prob send it to Tracy for him to check out! I'm going to try different length hoses and maybe insulating them somehow.

I just installed my Elite can on Thursday. I didn't hear a hiss with mine.

Checked the inline glass filter after 60 more miles today and things are looking good. In fact the glass tube looks better than it did yesterday. Still no hissing.

I don't know if this helps or not, but I have the V6 and this can. On idle I hear the vaccum, but when the RPMs go back down it is silent. It has never been very loud; the noise from the breather cap is much more noticable and I wouldn't even call that loud. Hope you guys get it worked out.

All cans will make some hiss as they act like a speaker amplifying any sound as the vapors travel through but not the annoying lound noise some are hearing. I wouldn't be conerned with a slight noise from the Elite can....good can. Best of the small billet cans by far.

So, I had a little time to play with the catch can hoses tonight. I re-routed and changed the length as well as replaced both hoses and no change in hissing. I got to thinking hmm, what if I try to insulate the hoses? I didn't have any regular foil or heat duct insulation so I used the only thing I could think of that I had in my garage.....DYNAMAT! Yes, so I wrapped both hoses in Dynamat and installed on the car. What do you know, the hissing is almost gone! I'd say 75% of the hiss is gone which proves what I said in the beginning of this thread that I think it's just the noise of the gasses flowing through the rubber hoses!
I ran the car for about 20 minutes and pulled back into the driveway to inspect the Dynamat. I don't think this would be a permanent solution because of the rubber on the inside of the Dynamat won't hold up to the high heat in the engine compartment. It was a good experiment though and proved where the hissing is being generated! Tracy, maybe you or Rx can do some testing and maybe come out with some kind of insulated hoses that are quieter! I'd be a happy camper if the hissing could be reduced to the point it is with the Dynamat! |

We DID change hose suppliers at the same time as the new checkvalves.....but we still have some hearing the clacking sound so going back to the original checkvalves. Good work Mike!!! We will do some more work on this but it sounds like 2 different issues. As some here hissing from other cans and some dont. Hmmm......

Yea, see what you guys can do! I'll hold onto the can for now cause I don't think that's where the prob is. I agree that there seems to be a couple things going on, one is the noisy checkvalve causing the "ball bearing" clatter, and the hoses causing the "hissing"! Keep us updated with what you come up with! Thanks Tracy!

Did you put the check valve back on when doing your insulation test? My curiousity is piqued over all of this. Oh and in case Tracy didn't remember, he did send me a new check valve a while back. Not sure of this one was part of the new ones that may be making noise? I've always used my own bulk hose because of cutsom installs. Other than the glass tube and short hose what is on mine now is the same hose on on loud can. Just no check valve.

I kind of figured that what evryone was saying about the sound, that it could be cured by some sort of insulation. I was originally thinking of header wrap. Heat resistain and still should absorb some of the noise.

What grade hose did you use before you switched suppliers ? Besides switching to another hose supplier , did you also change the grade type of the hose ? I heard that catch cans sold on ebay use a cheap grade hose that my collapses while under pressure ( please correct me if I'm wrong) ? I'm just curious because I'm in the market for a Quality made catch can with a top notch grade hose ... |
