He Said She Said... oh I just feel mixed up!

NOT!@

Thanks for chiming in on this one Scott. Though I really think most of us knew what was "stated" was simple irrational "hearsay"....

Most of us "KNOW" the ZL1 will be at least 10K over a 2SS as a starting point.

What I'd really like to know though, is CAN WE ORDER AT WILL and GET ONE???? Once dealers are allowed to enter firm orders and not just preproduction estimates?

My prediction; US = $55-65k (base), Canada = $75-85 (base). Besides, the fact that Canadians pay more for automobiles, the Canadian dealerships will get limited quantities, and put huge premiums on the price tag just like they do with Corvettes.

We all know there are a few dealers who say they will not put a premium markup on their ZL1 allotment, and some of them may actually hold true to what they are saying, but by-in-large, I think you will be hard pressed to actually take delivery of one without paying a significant premium. As Scott noted, it will be simple supply and demand in effect. (Of course, getting someone to admit they paid over MSRP for one even if they did is an exercise in futility. I have asked a lot of original 2007 GT500 owners what they paid for their car and almost 99% of them say MSRP or under. Right.)

While like other's I don't believe that this beauty will have a base of 43k, I think it'd be more about the 50-55 neighborhood. And alas, at this point, I think it's safe to say that I'll probably never have one anyway...

Here's the problem I have with that dealer making such an outlandish statement:

1. It isn't true and no one at GM in their right mind would say that the ZL1 is going to come in at that price.....

2. It sets people up for disappointment. (...and I REALLY hate that - I want to see each of you with "Perma-Grin" ..or, in the case of the ZL1 -- "Ultra-grin"...)

3. There is a CAFE law that says every manufacturer must hit 35.5 mpg by 2015 -- that includes Silverado and Suburban and Escalade and such.....so to think that we can sell 40,000 ZL1s is folly. The world has changed quite a bit since 1969...........so to say "well - if you drop the price, you'll sell more of them is counter to where we and every other manufacturer have to go. The sad reality is that our government may very well legislate performance cars into the stratosphere in terms of price. (...the law of supply and demand at work.....)
........(by the way - the 1969 Camaro V8 coupe had a base price of just over $2,700 - -and the ZL1 engine ALONE was $4,200! (there's a reason why only 69 of them were built -- and why it took so long to sell those 69 cars...) Now - I'm not saying that the same percentages will apply to the new one - but the dealer is just plain pulling your leg......

4. The CAFE standard, by the way - may increase anywhere from 51mpg in 2021 to 60mpg in 2021......NOW is the time to make it clear to your representatives that you are not pleased.............

So - in the kindest way that I know how -- let me ask everyone who has read this thread to take what the dealer said with a grain of salt and then have a good laugh - (the world needs more laughter anyway - .....)

And to the original poster - I don't post this to make fun of you or belittle you - I am certain beyond any doubt that you are a very enthusiastic and loyal Camaro guy - and you are only telling us what you were told. It's just unfortunate that what you were told was false and that the info. given to you by that dealer will only lead to disappointment.....and THAT'S why I'm so upset with this particular dealer - IF in fact he said what is claimed.
Thanks for clearing it up. To the OP. For the time being if any dealer is telling you anything about the ZL1 that has not been confirmed on this site...you should assume it is a lie no matter how good of "friends" you are with them.
