the tests were toughened up for 2012. Which, strangely enough, is why the Camaro aced it now and not a couple years ago. It was designed to beat the 2012 standards, which ended up hurting it in the older test

This is one of the main reasons why the Camaro weighs so much. With the now increased crash standards from the NHTSA, it's safe to bet all cars in the future will gain weight.

so if I understand this right, in terms of the body, the camaro is all the same(minus the engine and minor things) but the only thing that changed is the standards on the test?

I know this thread is old, but rather than starting a redundant one i'll just ask it here.

Has anyone gained any new insight as to what (if anything) changed between the 10/11 and 12 models besides the testing itself?

Or like saying "I didn't actually read the article which talks in detail about this very thing!"

I wonder how the Vert will do?.

Off topic but has anyone else noticed the safer cars get the more wreckless people are driving?

I've been T-boned by a van doing 40 mph while doing 5 mph in a 1970 convertible with no seatbelt on (top up, thank God) and woke up wondering what happened and why car parts were scattered across the road. I've been in the back seat of a car-before the crash that is- after the crash, I was up against the dash. I've ended up being ripped from behind the steering wheel to being on the passenger seat during a crash.

The solid construction of pre-1980 cars undoubtedly did save me from life-threatening injury in those accidents, even though there was a chance of being ejected from the car at 40 mph, impaled on a steel steering wheel spoke, etc

But let's face it- I would never have even had a chance of being hurt in those accidents in a new car. Wear your seatbelts, folks, don't make all that work the dummies do go to waste

Yes!

I also note that the better cars get, the more sloppy people drive, because they never had a few good scares to teach them to not try to take 90* turns at 45 mph after a rainstorm- they can just smear on the ABS, and ESC will keep the car straight
