Here, Kroger gas IS shell gas. Nonsense about this "you are what you eat" myth. Does kroger sell nitro? Nope. That's the one thing you'd be missing.

well, I've never been particular about where I've bought my gas. usually either the place closest to work (if I didn't have enough to make it home) or closest to home, (if I didn't have enough to make it to work). most of the time ends up being a convenience store.

never had a fuel related problem, never needed injectors cleaned or replaced. just saying

The great debate...the brand differences are the additives and Shell has always been the best choice with that respect. All gas is refined to a standard, but each brand has there choice of additives and discounts use just enough to meet standard. All delivery trucks enter brand specific codes when refilling to add the proper additives for the delivery location. Long story short, it does make a difference, but every vehicle responses based on the tuning parameters set by the government, but tuners can push these limits to make up for modifications. The more you change the vehicle from factory, the more fuel & tuning makes a felt difference.

I think myself and others have said this also. But apparently some folks are just trying to justify their decisions or want to believe rumors.

Folks, if in the end putting cheap gas in your car makes you happy and saves you a couple bucks every fill up then great. But don't make stupid arguments to justify your decisions! Just say I'm happy with cheap gas and I don't care!

I'm with you, this is why I emailed my friend. Nothing but Shell 93 for my car.

Here was my next question:

Well thanks for adding to the confusion. LOL! So if you had my car and it recommended 87 (or higher) what would you use?

Answer:

The same as I use in the Vette & MC, Shell premium

BTW- MC is short for his Harley!

But I will again say, Kroger gas (at least in my area) IS shell gas. I use Kroger because it is CHEAP and QUALITY.

I will keep thinking that as long as I watch the Shell truck full up the Shell station and the go across the street to Kroger.

I know around here the Shell stations honor your Kroger card for the discount, so I can see that Kroger stations are actually Shell gas...

Are Shell stations open to optional fuel? If the owner is cheap? Today (because of this thread), I noticed a tanker at a Shell station dropping off fuel and it wasn't a Shell tanker.

It had another name on it. Subcontractor used for delivery, or cheap gas?

No. Companies like Shell, BP, Exxon etc. are not open to "subcontracting" their fuel. What you see is that you get.

However, the company that delivers the gas is usually subcontracted. I know the shell (as well as kroger) in my area have trucks labeled with Gerondyke. Gerondyke is a "large fleet of tank truck carriers that transport chemical, petroleum, and grain products from coast to coast, and to Mexico and Canada" according to their site. They don't make the gas, just deliver it.

Unfortunately, I don't have a link or anything that you can read. I just have practical experience. I've been around racing and high performance cars for almost 30 years. I am friends with very good tuner and the owner of a high performance shop. I can't tell you how many times I've been in his shop while He is tuning a car. Whenever He gets a car that is detonating, or pulling a lot of timing on the dyno, He will ask the customer "What kind of gas do you use?" Without fail, the customer will respond " I only use Shell Premium." It is more obvious on a forced induction motor than a naturally aspirated motor. When this tuner installs and tunes a high performance motor, He tells his customers "Do not use Shell gas". I know three of his customers that damaged thier motors by using Shell premium. I've seen too many instances of detonation, on the dyno and on the street, with Shell gas to not think that it's "good gas". BP is the best gas I've seen. I will often go out of my way, with my Z06, to go to a BP station that has a seperate pump for premium.

However, Shell does make some really good racing gas. They make a 110 and a 112 fuel that is very good.

In other news, my dad runs Ethanol (NOT E85) in his Yukon. It's rated at 105 octane and is only $3.05 a gallon!
