Everyone I know that has a fast car (10.99 or faster) has an auto and if it came with a manual, they did a swap to an auto and went faster. I have a buddy that has a rx7 with an ls1 engine in it that runs 9.60's @ 144 mph. He has an auto. He had a six speed and that pos wouldn't hold up and kept breaking. Couldn't get into the 9's with it either. Put a turbo 400 in it, went faster. Now he ways to drive it more so I'm currently building him a 4l60e for it with every upgrade you can buy. And I bet it'll go even faster with the 4l60.
No sir. Thats not the reason.

Man up, learn how to drive stick so we can keep the manuals alive and keep the autos a step under the manuals like it should be. Pansies!! And sir, the ZL1 is not a sports car? What is it then?
I've been driving sticks since I was old enough to push the clutch. Driving an auto just means you got smarter not that your not a man. It was a good move on GM's part if you ask me.

I agree too. Did he really say "Man up". I'm thinking some of the manual guys are compensating for something..

There is nothing on that list that says they were L99's converted so at this point, until these guys come out and say otherwise, we can figure them as stick. Man this can go on and on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If YOU didn't run the times, stop posting them.

The 'Fast List' is much the same as MSNBC doing a poll on wether you believe in global warming. And I don't believe for a minute that some of the times posted are truly in that particular category. Racing is all about 'cheating'.

Here's a good example of WHY autos. Here is a video of my daughter (some of you may have already seen this) who has never raced in her life. Yes, this is her very first run. In my 450RWHP auto against a 650RWHP Maggie Manual. Guess what, had the guy with the SC not had the SC he would have been toast. The only thing that saved him by .380 of a second was the extra power. She had him beat out of the hole, halfway and didn't lose this unti the very end..

See, that's what I'm talking about. You just happen to be one of the older gents that now prefer an auto. You are going to tell me you actually found in your early years, driving a stick was less fun than driving an auto? Cmon man.

I don't think this is a thread about older gents or any auto guys disagreeing with you. We seem to be the ones defending the put-downs and the "not being a man if you don't drive a stick" bs that's been thrown out here. What you are saying is a preference thing. That's all it is. I researched a lot before I bought mine and found the Auto's to be pretty incredible at the drags and that's what I wanted out of my car. Not everyone's cup of tea.

I think manuals are fun as hell to drive too. And yes, even the girls in my family can drive a stick but not all of them prefer one.. (that sounded weird).. Anyway, to each their own!!

Hey guy, come over here to baton rouge and I can set you up with a couple dozen or more auto cars that will hand you your ass. But I know, you'll say "I missed a gear". Please. It's a fact that auto is the Trans of choice for speed heads or gear heads or whatever you wanna call them. Go to the frigging drag strip and count how many 10 second cars are running a manual. Then count the 11 second cars. Then 12 then 13..... And report back. Your gonna feel like an idiot. Because as the cars get faster, the less they use a manual.

I still own manual cars. That's not the point. I just ordered a 2013 GT500. The question was why in a ZL1. I said it makes sense because it's what the people wanted ,and it's not a true sports car anyhow. I hate to tell you but a ZL1 owner in an automatic can be just as manly or just as much as a *ussy as in a manual SS. The car or the transmission doesn't make a man. It goes far deeper than that.

It depends I said "Some" of the manual guys not "All". You seem uptight. Are you of the "Some" i'm referring to?

L99s and LS3s are both fun , I had both and while the L99 is quicker, the LS3 would rape the L99 when in gear during pull. My 2012 LS3 makes my L99 look like a wanabe. The drag strip only tells part of the story , but for road coarse use which is where my interest is the LS3 pulls way harder in gear and this is stock LS3 vs Intake , header and tune L99. . I used tapshift on my L99 because I shift faster than the computer ever could mostly because I am a Formula 1 freak, ever seen those cars shift, faster than you could say sneeze. However both cars are both fun and who's to say you can't have fun in an L99, I felt like was driving an exotic when I had my L99 especially when down shifting, the LS3 is more power when in gear but for that Ferrari like BWAP! BWAP! sound when down shifting the L99 was where it is at.
