I have not complained about the work. They had not even touched the car. It was more damage I saw upon closer inspection. The dealer is now telling me the car had to be like that... bullshit

hmm let me think this through, since a few people aren't capable of doing so.

new transmission = New case, all new internal parts

Reman transmission = used case, all new internal parts

--

so we are getting all bent out of shape over the fact that the casing is used? Factory Reman means all the internals are new..

Now the only other difference would be that the new is built on an assembly line by a computer/robot, and the reman is probably built on a bench by a body..

----

beyond that, 1 mile or 99,999 miles, your existing transmission is used correct? you have driven the car, you stated 2,500 miles correct?

so GM is replacing a used transmission with a used transmission, seems fair to me, as long as that reman transmission comes with a warranty that is equal to the exisiting 5/100K (and not some 12 month 12K warranty) then I fail to see the issue...

now if they tell you that the reman transmission no longer falls under the 5/100K and after 12K you have no warranty on it, then yeah I can see getting all bent and twisted.

-----

insofar as the OPs story, well only he knows the truth, I wasn't there so I have no clue.. nor will I venture to guess

Then the tow truck driver damaged it putting it on or off the truck. That is the only reason I see if being pulled out like that - do you have pictures of the fender? Also, pics under the nose of the car where the tow truck person may have hooked onto your car? That would tell us more if it was done by the tow truck. It was a flatbed tow, correct?

just saw that picture, and I have to agree with this, the car should have been flat bedded..

Yeah I understand completely about the reman transmission, its just the point of it you know? IMO, the car should not of had that happen, yes the car is technically "used" but with only 2k miles, i feel as though i should be given a newtransmission. Thats just how i personally feel...

and yes the car was put on a flat bed, how could the tow truck possibly of damaged the allignment of gaps? I am not sure how that would work..

I do not have any pics of the fender since it was hard to see in the pictures the difference... and no i did not even think about looking under the car where it would of been hooked up, it was on a flat bed.

That pretty much sums it up,all the internal wear items are new (clutch discs, plates, seals, gaskets, solenoids, bearings, etc, etc.)
And the warranty is the remainder of the factory 5yr/100k powertrain.

There you go.. Logic, a powerful weapon in the right mind.....

eye for an eye so to speak, used part for a used part, only the Reman part you are getting is technically newer that your part because it doesn't have those 2,500 miles on it.

you know, for a young kid with his first new car that he loves and obviously does his best to take care of as much as he possibly can he seems to be taking this relatively well. He's upset, as he has a right to be. he's finding out opinions on what his options are, as I believe any of us would. He's frustrated but not out of line, I think most of us could agree. So why is it that it seems a few people need to poke their head in and kinda dog on the OP a bit? you see a man burnin' and think "what a great opportunity to get rid of some of this extra gasoline!" c'mon guys, have a li'l compassion and some tact...

I for one didn't imply to "dog" him, however sometimes one needs to think through the issue, remove emotion and use a little logic to understand why things are the way they are, why the dealer/GM makes the decision it does.

Emotion causes you to get hung up on feeling (the OP even stated as much) and sometimes fail to see the reasoning or logic in a given situation.

Yeah I feel for him, as a youngster I had more than my fair share of WTF this isn't fair B.S. from dealers over warranty stuff.

Use it as a learning experience, and file it away.. Critical Thinking skills are something you have to learn.. It takes time, but getting emotional over stuff like this will never get you anywhere.

I understand his frustration, as I for one was simply pointing out that technically speaking he is getting a new transmission, the only thing on it that won't be "new" is the casing, all the internals will be.. So getting upset about that part of it makes the situation seems worse that it is..

I also pointed out that he needs to be sure to ask about warranty, because he is a youngster the dealer might try and fly some B.S. past him.

READ and UNDERSTAND all the paperwork BEFORE you sign and agree when picking up the car..

Reman is just as good as new in a case like this.

Now I am waiting to see who, (I am not suggesting it) will be first to tell the OP that he should get $$$ from GM for future deminished value. Without the original transmission, this car will never be a 100% numbers matching car. Unless this situation is different.

Everyone else was saying the value wouldnt change? but putting it like that i guess it will never be truly numbers matching, everything on it is stock.
