You need the magnaflow resonated X pipe...rasp goes bye bye it is not pictured there...what you have is a simple welded crossover X, which is not resonated...

Still waiting to see follow-up by BigPapa and the addition of the cross pipes. I recently added a CAI and before didn't have any rasp, but now it does. My currant set-up is nine 1/2" holes drilled into the stock mufflers (thru the outer shell only). Since I learned I'd be losing allot of weight (30 lbs) by going to an aftermarket system, the sound of the holes is not critical. So I make no fuss about the holes being a great idea, just that it might be a good stepping stone:

If anybody tries the holes, you might want to do them on the bottom instead of where I did them for a few reasons: Don't need to remove the diffuser like I did, plus they wouldn't be visible, you might notice I painted them black so they wouldn't show. I used b-b-q grill paint brushed on after through de-greasing. I was thinking of posting this in separate thread with other tips, such as using more holes but about 1/4".

I just thought of this idea: If you do put on the 4" tips you can easily enlarge the diameter of the diffuser's exhaust ports by doing this:

Get some PVC pipe in sizes 4" - 4.5" -5" outer diameter, I'd bring in a caliper to find out exactly what they have available. Than, by using sanding papers stuck on to the PVC pipe, you can easily enlarge teh diameter of the them without distorting the shape. SO your end result would be that they'd look factory stock but larger by about an inch or so. PVC pipe is dirt cheap, and there are many variations in diameter if you look at all of the various assortments in the plumbing department at any Lowe's or H.D. I'd assume the stock diameter is at least 4" if his 4" pypes fit thru them, I'm not sure what the best looking diameter would be until I actually had them, so I say just use this as an idea not an exact formula. From his pics it looks like the top was much closer against the pypes, so maybe aim for making the center of each higher but whatever, try to make them perfectly round. Also, a rasp file or jig-saw might help hog-off the bulk of the plastic.

I've been busy with some of my other mods. After I install my ACS ports I'm coming back to some of the performance mods. I actually enjoy the sound of the exhaust so its not as much of a big deal to install the X-pipe. It's coming but some of my other mods were more of a priority!

We have some very un-usually warm weather here today and next couple days. After reading the info about the weight of stock trash cans...I decided a better stepping stone than holes would be to get a hack saw and cut them off.

The diffuser had to come off, maybe not if I had lubbed the rubber things, which I had to later. But anyway, off they came. I was shocked at how much they weigh, like a handshake from a boss that just fired you.

Sound now? Hate it, not the volume but the tone and drone. I think till I decide which I want I'll attach pipe so it leads out the back, that makes big difference.

I've been listening to dozens of them on youtube, everything from glass packs to whole cat-back systems like the Flowmaster American Muscle 3" Thunder (kinda dig that one).

So tomorrow I might just hook up regular straight pipe to the diffuser ports and use that till I'm sure what I want. I just thought I'd see how I like it really loud, and yes i was expecting it to sound horrible, and it does. Looking at the back with no chrome tips I think black or carbon would look nice.

I hate to beat a dead horse but we neeed a better inside the car vid. The Pype's are not cheap, that is relative to what else is out there, now glass packs are cheap. The local auto parts store has Thrush glass packs for less than $30 each.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say this, that those trash cans DO weigh a ton, I have a very accurate postal scale and the exact weight is 25 lbs each. It's like they are made out of lead, and if I see another Camaro on the street with those hanging down, I can not respect them, on a personal level, no matter their budget or education on this topic, I will give them the finger !

I saw a set somebody hacked off on Ebay for $60.00 btw

I have Pype Bombs on my V8 M6 and LOVE THEM. Inexpensive. Look good. Sounds better. And no trash cans. Highly recommended.

Just an update on my currant straight pipe predicament (cut off stock mufflers, nothing in there place)..

I went to local Top Value, they have no S.S. pipe in stock so maybe I can bring the correct size and diameter piece. Stock system is 2.25 o.d, the Pype Bombs are 2.5" so it would need to have adaptor ends.

I've read clamps can slip and in this case I think welding would be best solution due to them being so close to the diffuser.

So, just letting off steam about this. I tried to buy various pipe pieces from 2 local auto parts stores and found out that can be tricky, plus they are all low on stock making you drive from store to store.

So I'd like to know what that 10" connector pipe looks like.

It took me a long, long time to understand that the axel back pype bombs are not offered in a V6 version. Scoured thru their site and then sent question to them. It would be nice if there was needed connector pipe/clamps or having it welded. Also, I think 4" tips rather than 4.5" for the V6 would do us better. On their site, they make them for V6 Mustangs, I don't get why not for the V6 Camaro.

While driving my '12 LS without any mufflers, and CAI, I noticed that there seems to be much less power at lower rpms I guess do to the lack of back pressure. Also a strange sucking sound when I let off the gas, sounds like sand being kicked up by the tires.

I want a system that not only sounds good but improves performance. Will installing the axel back Pype bombs on my V6 (made for v8s) decrease my low end torqe? Is that why the system they make for the V6 is a Cat-back with mid mufflers?

If I go with the Pype Bombs, I will also get the Magnaflow resonated X-pipe, is this the correct part # for my V6 which has 2.25" pipes: MagnaFlow 10790 2.25" Universal X Pipe ???

Are you sure, I've got 2.25" pipes cause I've got a V6?

I bought a 10790 (x-pipe for 2.25") off ebay, perhaps the seller can be contacted in time to exchange it.

Also I bought the Pype Bombs for v8 axel back from Summit and when it's here I'll deal with the issues of mounting them. I think something is lost from listening to all the vids out there, one thing's for sure, sound is of importance to many or there would't be so many.

I think the wider 4.5" resonator at the very end of the tip (last thing it goes thru like a gun silencer) is going to give the deepest lowest most V8ish tone. If it ends up being too loud for me, I can ad on the M80 mufflers from Pypes up front and keep the bombs too. Hopefully this doesn't end up the most expensive way to go about it for these components.

EDIT: I went to ebay and bought the 11386 resonated x-pipe from the same seller. The seller has 30 day return policy and so I won't panic if he ships the previously purchased 10790. I just do not know much in general sbout mechanic workings, so I don't know if it's possible to fit the 11386 to 2.25" pipes. I do know that the term "muffler" is used to describe it in some of the ads, so there is some kind of major difference between a raw X shaped pipe and the 11386. It might end up that I'd want to replace the whole pipe from the Magnaflow 11386 on down to the new Pype Bombs, at least that way I'd be have 2.5" pipes which would fit right into the Pype Bombs (are 2.5"), and eliminate the need for many clamps and stuff.

If this is the case, than can somebody please suggest exactly which pipes (stainless of course) I need and, the brand too? The answer is going to mean of course several hundred dollars more of an investment but at least this way I'd be getting rid of allot of junk too. I hear many removed the stock resonators, but I don't know enough about them to figure out why that would be good.

GOT EM!!!!!

I CAN NOT believe how fast Summit got them to me, ordered Fri. morn, got em Sat afternoon! (they are about 140 miles from me)..but also should mention that a very nice color catalog came with them, chocked full of goodies.

Now, the fit? I don't know what B.P. did which made him need 10" piece but mine fit like a glove. I cut off my mufflers very close, only about 1/2" remaining on the muffler so maybe thats why.

The Pypes fit over them, and about 2" deep, just right. Now I just need a 2 1/4 inner dia. / 2 1/2" outer dia. adaptors and I can clamp them on. They are actually so secure evan without the adaptors or clamps that I've driven it up to the auto parts store. They are locked in, can't fall out but I'm still not getting full effect while they leak around the joint.

The only other problem I see is getting them to fit plumb thru the center, I'll worry about getting them exact when I get the adaptors which are not at local autozone so will buy them off ebay. The Pypes came with 2 very high quality clamps, so you could say this is a plug and play kinda deal if you have the adaptors I mentioned earlier.

All I had to do was remove the rubber brackets from the tailpiece section so they'd drop down enough to fit the Pypes over them. I didn't evan have to remove the diffuser, but it was tight trying to get them forward enough to get the Pypes over the tailpipes.

THE SOUND?? I like them very much but have only driven it a few miles due to another project I'm on. The sound I've heard so far tells me these are great, I wasn't expecting them to sound so mufflery. They are behaving like a good system should, not droning, and only getting loud wot. It gets better, I've got a magnaflow resonated X pipe on the way.

Here is a pic I snapped to show how the Pypes fit right over the tailpipe:

I didn't base my choice on price alone, but who can argue with that angle, they were $279 shipped! Compared to some other choices, they are at least 1/2 the price. When I get it clamped up I can do a few vids for the sound, but I tell you now, these are great.

They weigh only 8 lbs. each compared to the 25 lb. trash cans.

Good! Now I can wait for Buzz to install the x pipe first! I don't want to take away from the sound of.the system. I'll wait to see what Buzz thinks first. The Pype bombs sound pretty damn good and I'm not really trying to tone it down!
