It's really quite simple. The Nissan Altima is built in Tennessee. The QR25DE engine which powers it is built in Tennessee. The Jatco Xtronic CVT which drives it is built in Mexico. One member of my family works at the Smyrna plant where the vehicle is assembled. Also, Nissan recruited quite heavily for that plant at the university I attended, including many American engineering positions. How could I not think the Nissan Altima is an American car?

I guess I can't blame you since your local area is employed thanks to the foreign company.

Chill out people. I already decided to keep the SS. But I did find some of your posts pretty interesting. I didn't know the Minis were so unreliable. Guess I should have done some research before considering. I did look into the Subaru BRZ and I was impressed. Very nice car.

For some of the other posts; Altima? Daewoo? Rly? I take the Minis any day over those, just because. Mind as well tell me to buy a mini van.

The Altima coupe is a sexy car! Have you ever seen it?

It's a huuuuuge move, but the gas mileage and the fun drive of the turbocharged S is tempting. I want to lower my payments a bit and save a lot on gas. Plus, they are offering 3 year free maintenance. I like to get a motorcycle in about a year and a half, so this move my benefit given I buy a harley type bike.

Honest opinions only please.

Should I think about it or should I just get slapped in the face and wake up? lol
My brother owns mini cooper S, and I can tell you that its a real nice car! It handles well, its looks good) so if you really want it-get it)

I did what your contemplating. Yea it's down on power but its much more fun. And mini is great about warranty work. Dealers will even come pick your car up and leave a loaner mini. I get 39 mpg on the highway and 33 around town. Comfort access is great too. Also opening the windows/sunroof and closing them with the keyfob is nice too. And even completely stock they are pretty powerful for what they are. And auto leveling bixenon is sweet too. Headlights even turn around corners for you. I don't miss my camaro at all. And don't worry about the mini in a wreck. They are very safe cars. My biggest issue with mine is that when you use the windshield sprayer with the lights on it washes the headlights. Nice in the winter cuz they are heated and instantly heated. But the fluid leaves a trail down the side of the car unless its waxed really well. That's my only complaint. Taking on ramps at 80 mph is a blast. It's a lot of fun when other people try and keep up around curves and just can't even come close.

But the company is still employing American workers. So the build quality is there and since the Japanese designed it it will work right. I see the best of both worlds. If American workers are getting paid regardless why is it a huge deal where the profit goes?? They are obviously investing money on this side of the pond. After having a camaro and all the issues ill never own another GM. I know that.

The mini cooper supercharged/turbochsrged was listed as among Consumer Reports top ten cars not to buy used. The engines breakdown frequently and the body panels squeak... clearly it is made by Mattel for Barbie. This is not the way to get in touch with your feminine side.

Wow, trading a Camaro for a Minicoop is total . The thought of such a thing alone is grounds for man-card revocation. It's like debating on whether to dump your model girlfriend in for a midget wrestler.

I'd consider a Mini for my wife, I think she would find it fun to drive. Not for me, though, but whatever suits you. I don't really have a problem with anything but toyotas...

My mom recently ordered and picked up a 2012 Mini Cooper S with a 6 speed, and man is that a fun car.

I'd say it FEELS faster than my V6. It's a turbo that puts down 2/3 the power at half(ish) the weight. It FEELS faster. The 6 speed is tons of fun, and very easy to drive. And sport mode is a blast. It tightens the steering, and when you push the clutch it holds the rev for a second to allow faster, smoother shifts. Oh, and it tunes the exhaust stroke to cause that popping we all love.

I wouldn't call you crazy, but it is a big move. I personally love the mini, but I wouldn't trade Caroline for one.

Oh, and mini dealers will bend over backwards to make you happy. Flat tire? They'll pick up the car. Clutch burns up? Don't worry about it.

Their extended warranty plan covers everything from clutch replacement to tires and it costs nothing compared to those two things.

Oh, and don't pay attention to the "buy American" bs.
The cruze is built in 10 different plants and only 1 was ever in the US.
Our cars were built in Canada.
Want to support American auto assembly?
Tahoes built in Texas, BMWs in North Carolina, the Camry is built in Kentucky!
Top 5 American cars (As in, parts and assembly in the USA) are:
Toyota Camry
Ford F150
Honda Accord
Toyota Sienna
Honda Pilot

One more thing, Post #800!
