On my first tank of gas from the dealership, my mpg was a dismal 14.8. Probably cause I was all around town getting to know the vehicle. On my 1st fillup tank went up to 17 with my everyday driving which is about 50/50 highway and city. I'm currently on my 2nd fillup and its around 16.7 with half a tank to go. Every once and a while I get on it, and go a little past 4 rpm. This isnt like everyday and I'm not dogging it or anything, not racing it. Also being in Texas with the heat, I always have my A/C on. I currently have 650 miles on it. So as I go past the break-in period I'm hoping for better numbers. Just to throw some numbers out there.

With my current tank of gas, I was on track for roughly 26mpg combined (60% hwy/40% city). Until I got tired of driving like an old man and started having fun again. Now, I'm back down to 22.4mpg combined.

Seriously, if you really want to maximize your MPG, then short shift and never go above 2000 rpms. I've done this a few times in the last couple of weeks, resetting the average mpg calculator each time, and you will really see your fuel economy go up.

Well @ 500 miles I went from 25.6 to 25.9, then shortly after we put on the GMPP exhaust, sound pretty good. Now we get 27.4 with just over 1000 miles on it.

Very happy with the car!!

Although I didn't believe posts such as this, I noticed that it does indeed get this on the hwy.

1,200 miles on my car now, overall average before resetting it this morning was 21.6 mpg and that is about 50% HWY and 50% CITY. I reset this morning for my 15 mile hilly commute - 10 miles at 70 HWY and 5 miles city. The reading is sitting at 25.6 mpg for that trip which includes a stop, park, and restart at Micky D's.

so if a person upgrades the exhaust then the MPG goes up why is that? less restriction in the exhause system?

Yep. A restrictive exhaust puts more back pressure on the engine, which forces the engine to use more of its power just pushing its own fumes out.

Back on the main topic, after 2800 miles and using mostly 89 octane with ethanol (it's the least expensive option around here), I get 26.5mpg on the highway and 17something in the city.

Yep, the old adage "revs mean fuel" still applies.
