OK she's back in the game!
The ATI install and setup was easy -- now, getting to the place to install the pulley, was not of course. I pretty much followed this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38661 And this one for the AC Belt: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=164446&page=2 The difference for me is mine is an A6 with a Vararam intake. I had to remove the Vararam. I had to unbolt the starter -- but did not disconnect any wires or transmission lines. I removed the heat shield on the starter to allow me to move the back-end of the starter up towards the top. This allow me to use this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LS1-2-3-LSX-...9%26rkt%3D4%26 to hold the flywheel -- please, do yourself a favor and use this -- no broken teeth on your flywheel and this becomes a one man job -- trust me, I did all this by myself. And this to install the pulley itself: http://www.coloradospeed.com/hawk-ls...3-p-10976.html This little tool is invaluable: http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?...llow&cId=PDIO1 for doing the heat shield on the starter! Instead of buying the whole set, I'd just get the 8mm and 10mm -- you use that alot! The sell them individually. BTW, I torqued everything -- no guessing -- spec all the way -- even starter bolts. And I found one of the starter bolts was loose too! Now, these are steel bolts going into an aluminum block -- should have had blue lock-tight on it -- didn't -- so I did make sure that I had that on this one before I torqued it. Also, the ATI had an updated bulletin -- the T45 is now torqued to 30 not 28 ft lbs -- there MUST be a reason for the extra 2 ft lbs. T40 was still 16 ft lbs. So, this sad tale has a happy ending (right now anyway ;o). The pulley is on, tight, no runs, drips, or errors that I can see. Drove it locally and verified everything. Got gas (check oil again as I had to replace oil/filter) and took her on the highway -- purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrddddddddddddddd all the way! BTW, and this is important -- NO AIR TOOLS! Stripping can occur. The only exception is the crank bolt -- this is per GM. I used a breaker bar or rachet first, then, used my air rachet only to get it out the rest of the way -- once I was certain it was loose enough. Took its slow and easy ---. When I bolted things back up -- no air tools @ all. Just got things tight and torqued them. Blue lock-tight on anything metal (bolts) to aluminum and torqued to speck. TSP/GPI: If you can send me a RTM label, I'll box this up and ship it to whomever should get it first. I do have pictures of the process if anyone feels it to be a benefit. I can add a DIY or just add them here. Depends on the feedback Thanks for the support everyone! Now, the girl needs a bath badly... (and boy, so do I after this Texas heat, DAMN!) -Don |

John:
You'll have to get down here to DFW (when its cooler) and teach me how to drive this thing on the track! ;o) Now, onto the suspension mods -- they're on the way! 1LE, 1LE, 1LE (I like the sound of that for my SS)... -Don |

Thanks. I'm just now trying to learn about this mod, as seems fairly easy with the right tools. Isn't the HP gain very minimal though for a basically stock V8... like 5 RWHP?

Naw you should coordinate with Martin (62Nalide) and Jeff (camarojt) and hit the track with them, they are real good with 5th gens.

Yes, 5 @ most. IF you don't have headers, I'd do those first --better bang for the buck. I have Stainless Works and love them

Yeeeaaaahh... ~5 or so, but that's not the only benefit. Do your research regarding harmonic dampening.

Yes, finally on. Looks good too. If you want to see what it looks like before buying one, let me know and we'll meet up.
I've noticed cooler temps on coolant, oil, and transmission too. I bet this thing was slipping alot. It was getting hotter over the last week before she went. That would be a clue if anyone keeps track of that. I drove it today and everything was about 20* to 30* cooler (* = degrees). Coolant was no longer in in the 'middle', and running lower. Oil temps went from 250 to 215, and Trans temp went from 210 to 180. I log those temps weekly just so I can keep track of what my mods do to the car. I initally thought it was the headers, but now, I'll keep an eye on it and see if those temps hold true after a week... Thanks! -Don Last edited by hammdo; 07-23-2014 at 12:44 AM. |
