So did my 2015 GMC Terrain. There was also no recall for the '11 Equinox I traded in.

Just last week I was able to get my local dealer to fill out a recall form that stated I was opting out. He said he has done it for several Camaro owners. Very nice of them considering I didnt buy my car there. I have bought several other vehicles from them but they could not get the ZL1 I wanted.
I feel better knowing I have at least responded to the recall. |

I did mine this morning. I bought the roll pin assortment at Harbor Freight ($3.99). It has 4 of the correct size pins (1/16 X 5/16).
I did learn a little trick that makes the swap over go even faster. Grinding the plastic off the key is a pain and creates a mess. Instead, put the key in the edge of a vice with the plastic down and hit the plastic right next to the key with a small wood chisel. The plastic popped right off the key, no muss, no fuss. Here's the difference between grinding and using a chisel. ![]()

You can make something work to get the plastic off. I used a C-clamp to attach the key to a long 2x4, held the 2x4 with my foot over some steps and hacksawed off the plastic.

Did mine last night, put painters tape on the metal to keep it from getting marked by the vise, one pop with the chisel and off came the plastic. Couldn't be any easier. The hardest part is finding the roll pin's but I found them this morning at the hardware store for .09 each.

Perhaps the law is different in N.C. or V.A.
But I do not think so. When I took my car to the dealer for service since the recall I stated that I would not be parcipitating in the key recall. The service manager stated that it was NOT mandatory to have it done. Was he wrong?

This is all great but you realize if you get in a accident and kill someone and it is because the key caused it as it did for a number of people. The liability is all yours not GM who has taken the financial hit for all the deaths. Just a thought. The faulty ignitions have been linked (by GM itself) to 13 deaths and 31 crashes. Also for thought if you kill someone and it is found you reverted the recall. The liability is off GM and the lawsuits will all be on your head. And GM will thank you for that.
![]() And I know it will never happen to me.

The switch in the Camaro isn't faulty like the Cobalt etc. If you don't whack your key and turn your car off while driving, you'll be fine.
I reversed the recall on both my keys. If anyone in VT wants this done, I will do it for you if you buy my lunch. I've got the original GM fixture for driving the roll pins. |

Did mine last night. Took me forever, because I didn't have the proper tools, and the plastic is ridiculously hard, but I eventually got it all off. I used a thin nail, I believe a #16, that I cut to fit in where the roll pin goes. I also used a dab of Locktite in the grove on the key where the roll pin sits, so the nail doesn't come out. If you use glue, only use a little bit, because I accidentally glued my other switchblade mechanism on my other fob because I squirted too much glue in the grove and it went everywhere when I put the key in.

Actually, many many lawsuits are based on "if."
"If but for the action of..." etc. Considering it is impossible for me to hit the key with my knee, I think it'll be ok. My lug nuts *could* loosen, but I don't safety wire them. My headlights could burn out the same day, but I don't carry spares. IF you don't turn your car off while driving you'll be fine, just as if you don't drive on the wrong side of the road you'll likely not have a head on collision. |
