Well, since you brought it up. back in the day none of thease names were used where I'm from. But history later called the differant cars what they are now known to be.

Don't get me wrong I love my Camaro but can a muscle car be built in another country and still be considered a muscle car? I think the camaro is a sports coupe now. Let me get your thoughts on this.
The Camaro has never been a muscle car. It's a pony car.

A PONY CAR. No one seems to comprehend this fact. When you've got an engine so big it's coming out of the hood, then we'll talk.

So you are telling me my 1967 Pontiac Firebird 325 hp 400 automatic with AC, tilt, power brakes, power steering, power windows, speedwarning, hood tach and 13 other options is not a muscle car?

Now how about my 1967 250 HP 326 CI manual trans Firebird?

What denoted what a "muscle car" was considered back in 1967 or any year from 1964 to 1971?

Is a 250 HP 67 Firebird a muscle car? How about a 240 HP 289 Mustang?

What a muscle car is, is NOT about HP, styling, options, make or model. A "Muscle Car" was nomenclature, a moniker, a label denoting the bare minimum with the most HP.

Then we get a post here, to that I am currently formulating a response and two lines at best..."The 2010 Camaro is not a muscle car". You are going to post that comment on a Camaro forum and at best, your argument is 2 lines?

True muscle care were borne out of an ERA, not a definitive or particular car. If the Camaro is NOT a muscle car of this era, please define to me what is? I guarantee you that if you asked 100 people the following questions 100% of them would answer yes to them. Is a 326 Tempest, Firebird or Lemans a "muscle car"? By visual only (not knowing what engine was in car) would a Mustang, Nova or Firebird with a 1 bbl inline 6 cylinder be considered a muscle car?

How about a 69 307 2 door Malibu? or a 1971 Cutlass with a 350 rocket 2bbl motor?

What is the true definition of a muscle car?

Well, to be honest, since the end of 1971, the muscle car era ended and there has been no suitable title to make us warm and fuzzy of a bygone era to satisfy our cockels. Therefore to answer that initial generic cantankerous silly question that I so rightfully find pathetic, the Camaro is NOT a muscle car.

It is a car that will help define a newer era of excitement that right now we just can't finger a title for.

Sure you have the Corvette, the Mustang, the new Challenger...

Was the Corvette a muscle car? When was it considered a muscle car? Certainly not at it's birth in 1951 and it's release in 1953 with it's 235 CI 150 hp engine.

So for those who are on the fence about what a muscle car is or is not, I say to you this.

The 1964 GTO release was considered the birth of the muscle car era. Look at that car, performance, options, etc, fast forward 45 years and look at the 2010 Camaro.

No, we don't have air raid sirens anymore, duck and cover, unlocked doors on our houses and for June Cleaver to say to her husband that he was a little too hard on the Beaver and it be totally innocent. We have evolved and grown. To say the Camaro is not of a moniker borne out of thought and process of 45 years ago is outdated and naieve.

The Camaro will jump start a new, limited era of automotive insurgence that the Corvette, Mustang and Challenger can not. Why? The Corvette is too high priced for the ordinary "Joe", The Mustang too common and generic and the Challenger is OK, but not as performance cored as the Camaro. For those who call the SS a pony car, my Camaro is faster than 95% of all "muscle cars" borne out of the 60's. Look it up in the test data, online..

Is it a muscle car?

Hell NO!

It is more than that.

Yep.

Your sis forgot to drop them off. Living with you in the family would drive anyone to take meds.

a Muscle car is the family car that can sit 5 or more butts in it with a big flipping engine in it a over sized small block or a big block in it. these only ran from 64-74 & started with the GTO.
Absolutely right, the back seat needs to be big enough to make babies in. The Cuda, Challenger,Chevelle SS and the Goat are real true muscle cars of the 60's. We called the Mustang and Camaro "pony" cars back in the day,as they were smaller and lighter than these sleds

My SS 454 laid down a sizzling 14.0 and 98 mph when it was new and still handles like a lead sled

Does anybody know why they the camaro is called a "CAMARO", well we all know mustang was the first in the 60's to be produced, as we all know a mustang is like a pony, that's where the whole pony car phase came from. Well after mustang chevy came out with camaro..... Does anyone know what a camaro is? It is a mythical creature that eats and feeds on mustangs!! It's been in stories long ago.... So technically it's a mythical creature car LOL nah but it's a muscle car... Period
