OK ... I've reported having the same issues when backing out of my drive. My questions for you guys are ...

1. Do all the cars having this problem have the manual trans ?

2. Are all these cars setting the E-brake ?

3. Could it be the E-brake hanging until the car gets rolling ?

just to toss in my few cents worth my mom has a ford edge that does this specially if theres rain or high humidity when ya go forward or backup. its like the pads are stuck to the rotors the dealer checked it right after she first got it but said it was normal with the crazy weather . hopefully this is what you all are experiencing and not something major goin on .

I just ran out to the store and it did it again. But this time I felt it in the brake pedal (first time) ... So I guess that would eliminate the E-brake ...

I am pretty sure its the ABS unit checking. Applying some brake pressure or something making the car make those grinding noises.

Even people with totally different suspension and brakes kits are still having the noise. So it really comes down to what they haven't changed out. So i am pretty sure its the ABS unit.

I got mine back from the shop today. My invoice said "called TAC to check for similar concern. Spoke with Matt Coleman. Case 11361428. Was told internal PI AIC3614. Engineering information and updated calibration in development." I'm running 21 and that's alot of wheel. They said that they would call as soon as GM got back to them with the update.

Check your left side steering rod for rub marks at the nearest point to your Headers. When i installed some Thorley Shorties they rub on full left lock.Just worth a look!

My 2SS (21" rims) was in the shop for a total of 8 days while they performed tests. A GM engineer was flown in from Texas to resolve the issue. This is an ABS problem and a new program will be available in August - so they say. If it's like the place where I work it will be at least October. Nonetheless, they know what the problem is and a fix is on it's way. Woohoo!

my rearend made a grinding noise when I turned or backed up. last week my rearend went out. the pinion bearing exploded taking the teath off of the ring and pinion. the dealership replaced it and no more noise. go figure seeings how when I took it to another dealership to have them look at it for the noise they told me it was the limited slip that it will be ok. my car has over 20,000 miles. good luck to those that are dealing with the same and gm warranty only covers $100 dollars worth of towing. the nearest dealership was 70 miles away.

Problem Solved

A GM engineer from Texas used my car as the guinea pig to figure out the problem. A program/code change to the ABS system should be available in August. Keep checking with your dealer.

Grinding Noise When Backing Fix

I just found out today what that noise is. After several attempts at the dealership trying to find out what this noise was they finally called out an engineer. Turns out that it is a software glitch and make the abs brakes come on for a split second. Last week Chevy released a software update that will fixes this problem!!!!!

Grinding Noise When Backing Not Fixed

Sooo..... I guess after Chevy tried to put in a new software program on my RS 2SS Camaro the issue still remains!!! Maybe there is still bugs in the software? The dealership said they should re load it because the numbers didn't match up. What ever that means!!!

How about some more info so I can give it to my dealer to fix my car? Do you have the TSB number for the software update or any other helpful info that I can read, print, and give to my skeptical service manager?
