Your welcome justmeron besides alot of the places and people I have spoken to and a few reviews equate the v6 to the American G37 so it is in good company. For me I am starting to look at it as for the 7000 more for the comparable 2SS to a @LT how much of that 7000 will I ever put to use? I mean that 7000 plus interest over the loan is easily 12000, or to put it another way its 150 a month extra on a payment.

@fixxer56 o my truck the vchip was an actual replacement chip which changed the programming in the computer for a more aggressive gearing, etc etc

Yea I have to agree ArcAngel.
As far as the V Chip I have herd ppl say it can give up to 100 more HP. I don't know that I agree with those numbers. But it can add more power for sure.

If you don't want to void your warranty, than be sure to stick with just intake and exhaust - and if you don't want to risk having to fight for your warranty, get those from GMPP.

I wouldn't bank on a chip for the V6 in the immediate future - the box still hadn't been cracked last I checked, so no tuning can be done yet.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you against that. They can deny a specific claim if they can reasonably blame it on your modification, but they can't void your whole warranty. Jerky dealers (which is most dealers) will abuse it and blame as much as possible on your modifications, while nice dealers will conveniently ignore your modifications.

I didn't know it was still possible to buy replacement chips. I thought everything was done by uploading flash firmware. A replacement chip would make it easy to keep your warranty intact; just put the original chip back in before you bring it in for service.

I know that some people who get their PCM flashed actually buy an extra PCM and have THAT flashed, and keep the original in case they ever need warranty service.

However, it's not really fair...you gotta pay to play. If you want to modify your vehicle to the point that you're stressing stuff beyond its original design spec (which is a large part of what most aftermarket tuning does -- removing Torque Management on GM full size trucks, for example), you should then take on responsibility for the results, rather than making the manufacturer pay for it by raising the prices that the rest of us pay for their cars. It's just if you're sure you would have had the failure even in stock configuration that you should be able to avoid warranty claim denial.

Yeah holy cow I see your point. My salesman told me don't tell service about the chip and they wouldn't know.

Yea I guess I was thinking their computers would show the re tunning of the car from the chip. Maybe not.

The intake should give you just about the same numbers. The exhaust probably won't be quite as good.

Not necessarily. From my experience the first thing they do when you bring your car in for warranty work is check the PCM for codes. They would be able to tell right off the back if a tune was done, I would think.

I was thinking the same thing.

P.S. - I'll be keeping my mods on the low side for a while too. A custom intake, replacement mufflers, resonator delete, high flow cats, shorty headers, short throw shifter, pedder's suspension, and Baer brakes should appease me for a while.

P.P.S. - And Spike has got me intrigued by the meth injection. Trying to figure out how well it would increase power in a N/A setup, if I set both it and a FPR up to increase fuel pressure and add the methanol as manifold pressure increases. May be a cheap enough way to get my last 10-15 horses or so without hurting fuel economy.

It's my guess that you won't get REAL gains out of an intake or exhaust until you get intake, exhaust, and tune together. Until then, everything from the factory is probably pretty well matched.

Has anyone here used a Tech II, or whatever GM dealers are using for a scan tool these days? When you plug it in and pull codes, does it also check the last flash upload date or anything like that?

Knowing basically how this stuff works but not knowing specifically what GM's advanced tools do, I'd give it a pretty good chance that they're unlikely to accidentally notice it. If they want to check then it's probably very easy, but I wouldn't expect them to check every car that comes in. Also, if it makes the car drive noticably different (which is surely what you're going for when you pay for it) they could notice the difference and then check for modifications.
