The fact that the insurance company mentioned it may have to go to Oshawa for an overhaul... wow, that's a GOOD thing. Ultimately, for the car, that would be the best. Let the Oshawa guys & gals work their magic again!! I imagine the engineers would love to get their hands on Killer Bee to do a once over of the stress involved on the car during a real world crash.

For you, you get to go out with friends and celebrate the fact that you walked away from that crash to live another day. THAT is something worth celebrating. If they are able to bring Killer Bee back to life, man... that's the icing on the cake.

My hope and prayers for you. May your eyes be opened as to how many people care about you, and may your car be given a second chance at life as well. Healthy body and a healthy car? Everyone here wishes you'll have both throughout 2010. If you're only able to have one, though, go for a healthy body. Nothing else matters, mate, if you don't have your health.

Cheers, for a new year!

Back to the Plant??

Shaun,

First off, let me say that you are a brave soul to share your story with us and also to admit your own fault. Reminds me of the saying: "Never try to fool Mother Nature". I hope other readers out there take Shaun's story seriously and never drive when conditions/equipment are unsafe (including your own physical state).

I feel for you and know where you are coming from since most of us had to scrape and save in our lives for what we want (not need).

Wow, I've never heard of that before. Your insurance company actually mentioned bringing your car back to Oshawa?? In BC where all basic insurance is covered by the province, your car would be written off. I'm curious to know how AB insurance works. In BC, you can write off your car at your own fault and your insurance will go up a certain percentage (like 30%??). It's been awhile for me (knock on wood).

Is AB insurance private? Private insurance premiums would be way too high after an accident like your's, n'est pas? Sort of like buying life insurance when you already have cancer. Especially since I assume you have to deal with the "youth" discrimination?

Our insurrance I believe is fully regulated to prevent the industry from being milked in more ways than just one.

Between my family, the dealership folks and there auto body inspectors, we believe the car would be written off. Several insurance companies as I know a few folks in that business claim the car would be reassembled at the plant. Thou now I hear there is a plant in California that repairs vettes and camaros that have been in collisions so I'm not sure what will happen.

If however the car gets written off, I sure hope I can get my stereo out of there since the amount of hours put into creating that setup literly cannot put a price tag on it.

Also, I finally saw the photo from the Edmonton Sun the other day. That photo was horrifying who ever snapped it.

I wouldn't even sweat this one buddy, when you are rear-ended it is always the fault of the person who hit you.

I know exactly how you feel about wrecking your car. When I was 19, I totalled my 327 'vette powered Nova. Lost control at 130 mph, went airborne off the road, sheared off a telephone pole 10 feet off the ground, and landed in a large clump of bushes. We all walked away, thank God. I felt exactly the way you do now, plus I felt that I let my friends down for being such an irresponsible idiot. I had just spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours to get that Nova swwwweeeeetttt. Didn't even get to drive it for more than a day.
That wreck changed my life for sure. That near death experience made me realize how precious life, family and friends are. Not that I was "born again" or anything like that, but it made me a better person for it. I'm sure after all the BS is taken care of, you'll come around to appreciate more what you have in your life.
Sincerely,
Kev

Windshield if broken how I imagine it from your description is same as mine. Airbag on passenger side popped my front windshield.

We've been tossing around the idea of naming our fallen camaro replacement the "phoenix."

Update,

The car is officially written off, I just got off the phone with the insurance claim inspecter. I mentioned the car stereo has a huge price tag and that I would like to harvest what I can from the car. He said as long as the original stereo stays intact, its not an issue.

Tomorrow I'm heading back over to remove what parts I can from the stereo (aftermarket).

One step at a time.. I'm nervous but that stereo needs to be removed asap as I put way too much effort into building those sub boxes. All the wiring job is lost with the car which is too bad because boy, I must have spent close to 20 hours wiring/soldering wires.
