To ease your fears, at your age it is much, much less likely for you to have periodontal disease. However, there is one form that is acute (comes on fast) and affects young adults called juvenile periodontitis. There could also just be a localized problem, meaning just the one tooth and not the entire mouth.

I didn't mean to freak you out. We are taught to always think of the worst possible thing that could be going on, then to rule that out. After that you move to the next worst case and try to rule that out.

for example; a guy comes in and says "I have a red spot on the side of my tongue". My first thought is cancer. Side of the tongue is the most likely place for oral cancers to form. You look at the color, the size, you get the history (how long has it been there, does it hurt, etc) then you rule out cancer and move to something less. eventually you might get all the way down to something like "you bit your tongue".

By the way, a sore spot in your mouth, especially the tongue is better news than a spot that looks like it should be sore and is not. Cancers do not usually have pain associated with them. Areas that are red or white are better than areas that are red and white. Side of the tongue is the most likely place but it can occur anywhere.
Yeh but still, from what I've heard, doing a root canal is one thing, while with periodontitis doesn't the tooth usually need to be pulled out? Also, what are the symptoms. I'm going to schedule a whole checkup with my dentist tomorrow. Hopefully he can do the fillings and then give me a referencial to an endodontist. And if I do need a periodontist, then I'll go after the root canals. F***, my gf owes me big time

I once bit myself right through my tongue, but I was told to wait it out a couple of days and it just returned to it's normal state

Is it o.k. to get worried about it to the point that the mind starts playing tricks on you?

I honestly thought that my teeth were loose but one of my neighbors is someone who was a dentist and a "general" doctor in europe took a look and said that everything's fine, it's just that as the tongue brushes up the tongue with saliva, it just seems that way because my mind is believing in the whole placebo affect. Unfortunately, he only took a look at the bottom row, because he doesn't have access to one of those seats that allow him to tilt someone's head and take a look at the upper row. But from what he managed to see, it doesn't look like I need a whatyamacallit (periodentist) but he told me that I need to have someone check out the top row as he couldn't see it

But after I showed him the partial x-ray, he said that I need to get a root canal on at least one if not two of the three teeth. And that the third one can be done without a root canal.

Unfortunately, he doesn't know any good dentists in the area, because he still owns his practices in europe and just has the dentists that rent them out do the work. His exact words when I asked him if he would ever go to a dentist here were "hell no"

Also, Apex which order would you recommend:

cavities, tooth that doesn't need root canal, root canals

or

root canals, tooth that doesn't need root canal, cavities

And should I get them both done at the same time or at two different times? They are right next to each other.

The tongue heals great all by itself. Very resilient.

Perio disease is usually first diagnosed after probing depths are determined.

One sign would be recession of the gums. If you can see the root of the tooth then there is some kind of periodontal problem or mucogingival defect. However, just because you can't see the root does not mean there is no perio disease. I wouldn't worry about the perio. It would be a low chance that this is your problem because of your age.

Root canals first, then cavities filled if you have any. I would get it all done as quickly as possible, because I hate going to the dentist, lol! Just kidding. It's up to you, but earlier is better.

That's the part where they are chipped. Originally, I thought that I just had a problem with the big one. And, I know that the one of the right needs the canal done. So I'm guessing that it's the middle one that can be saved

I mean, I'm gonna get all of it done this week, it's just I was thinking if I do an appointment for a check up on tuesday then my dentist can also do the cavities on the bottom. And I was thinking that the next day, wednesday I could get the cavities on top done.

My reasoning is that my dentist has offered to do the canals done asap. But he isn't an endodontist. And, I'm hoping that it's not perio

And I just looked in the mirror and the gums have definitely not receded. It may just be the way the way that they chipped. I mean, it is pretty severe, I guess

What's the usual treatment for perio anyway?

extraction? Because even if it was perio I could never agree to that, especially after having looked at dental sites that showed how extraction and implants were done

Also how do I go about asking my dentist that I want a referral to a endodontist? I mean yes, I will ask for one, but I don't want him to think that I don't want him to do the work at all. Just for the root canals, I want someone better

Hey Apex, I'm wondering do you know what sort of abreviation an endodontist has? My dentist has a D.D.S. and I believe that that's a general dentist right?
