Here's my story on how a long time Ford man came to own a 2010 Camaro LS:
I drove/raced 5 liter Stangs from 1982-1995 (yes, I'm old!). I had an 82GT, 83GT, 85GT, 93 LX 5.0, and a 95 Cobra. Then a job loss/divorce changed what I was looking for. When I finally got my life in order, I bought an 04 SRT-4, then a 06 Focus ST, and finally an 07 Cobalt SS Supercharged. Having enjoyed the Balt SS for 3 years, I was looking for a new ride. Since I was only in the market for a year round car with a max price of 25k, the SS Maro and the new 5.0 GT were out. The new v6 Stang was in limited supply where I live (there was only one, but it had an auto ... 6 speed a must!). Then I looked at the new Genesis. Most were auto's and in colors that I didn't want. The few 6-speeds around were optioned to 30k. I did drive one, but I disliked the trannie a lot (extremely notchy, Hyundai is working on a fix). So I thought the new Balt SS was my only option. There was one at a dealership for $25,600 (loaded). Then I noticed a single Camaro LS on the lot. It was an acceptable color (white), had a 6-speed, the all season tires I was looking for, and came with absolutely no options whatsoever. The sticker was $23,500. Hmmm. A new Balt SS for $25,600, or a stunning new Camaro LS for $23,500. Helllllooooo Chevy Camaro! I tell you, I've only had my car for a week now but not a day goes by that I don't get a thumbs up or "Nice car!" Yup. I made the right choice ...

Lol, jk But seriously, to all you v6 guys, do you really care if the mustang v6 is faster? Us GTI guys have similar competition in our own segment. Stock for stock, we are slower( in a straight line) than the WRX, MS3, and Cobalt SS, but most of us don't care because we have the better looking, more refined car, and if we are that concerned about performance, we just throw on a tune and some bolt ons so that we are better in every aspect, lol. Same goes to you. If you think your car is better looking and more refined, you shouldn't really care about speed, that can be fixed with I/H/E anyways

that's not always true. some people are in different circumstances. whether they got a good deal, couldn't get the trim of another model because it's too expensive, etc.

First off, I did look for a v6 Stang with a 6 speed ... but there were none in my area yet. Second, I was a drag racer for almost 15 years. So at one time, for me each and every 1/10 sec counted. But now (seeing how I couldn't find the stang) the fact that I got a Camaro which was 1/2 second slower really didn't matter. I've only been to the drag strip once in the past 10 years, and I can count on one hand the number of street challenges I've had in that same period of time. As far as modding goes to equal the v6 Stang, I will only consider putting on parts that are 100% backed by GM. I'm not gonna fudge with my warranty, no matter what. But, if GM ever does produces a CAI or a full cat back exhaust ... |
