Yes in traffic a manual is a killer. I had manuals for 20 years and finally with my bad left knee I moved to auto and my leg feels alot better. Lots of stop and go auto is alot better. If I was doing mainly highway stick it would be.

that used to be the way it was... anymore they are closer than ever if not having the auto ahead in some cases.

however, the decision is yours. ive driven manual in stop and go traffic, ive driven auto in stop and go traffic, ive driven some stupid huge donkey dick cammed cars in stop and go traffic.... its all what you are willing to put up with.

the only bad experience ive ever had with a manual was my old pickup truck... 250 I-6, 3 on the tree, no power steering, no power brakes.... old stiff ass clutch... after driving from IL to SC with it, my left leg was d e a d.... DEAD.

but its up to you.

I'd like to test drive an auto I think and get a feel for the gear spreads. If the are close, I might go that route, but if they are pretty far apart, I think I'll still go with a manual. My '02 has a huge 1-2 gear spread and large 2-3 but the converter takes care of that. I don't think I'm going to entertain stalling my next Camaro though, only so I don't have to think about the warranty if something with the powertrain comes up. Also, unless I detonate my manual tranny, I can change the clutch when I need, while I can't even begin to fathom rebuilding an auto' tranny. Since they don't require much servicing though, that auto' is looking a lot better Thanks Dragon

My tranny is stock through and through...The ONLY mod i have is the 112HH magnuson kit....and drag radials.

Being able to "Hook" in a race situation is worth more then the "manly" rush of jamming gears...JMO...JMO...JMO...to me..again JMO....

I'm not a race car driver but exactly do you mean by "Hooking" as refereed to in a race?

When I was stock...I beat a 10 second vette (blown ls2 with nitrous) he was spinning all the way down the track and I was hooking high 13s...he was high 14s

He would have beat me by 4 seconds if he could have (A. been a better driver or (B. had an Automatic.

being able to launch off the line at your desired rpm without spinning the tires.

when your tires hook, you go!

I have not personnally driven a GM vehicle with a paddle shift tranny. I have driven several Ferrari 360s and I LOVE the paddle shift on them....just stomp the accelerator and blip it for each shift, there is nothing more fun!!

Either way, I am pretty sure you will love the new camaro with either a manual or auto! Just make sure you buy one because GM needs our support now more than ever!

(I just hope they remember us after they get through this mess!)

Its not the same type of paddle shifter. That was an automated manual, essentially. This is a manually operated automatic. Although the Camaro automatics will have characteristics of a manual (shifts only when you tell it to), it will still be an automatic at heart.

No, it isn't. Stop and go traffic isn't even that bad when you know how to work the clutch the right way. Manual is just more fun, period.

Not on the 405 in L.A. where it consistently takes 2 hours to travel 30 miles. Everbody that lives in L.A. and has a stick must have a really buff left leg and right forearm.
