I am attempting to install my springs and am having a hulluva time getting the upper spring retaining nut off.. anyone have any advice???

I compressed the spring off the upper retainer but when I try to loosen the nut the whole strut shaft turns (i might find that sentence really funny if i hadn't just spent 4 hours working on this to accomplish absolutely nothing :(). Is there a specific tool to hold the shaft while I loosen the nut? (ok that was kinda funny)

I mean I know any upgrade on a car isn't supposed to go smoothly but seriously, I can't seem to figure out a solution to this

Yes it's a t50 socket. Search DIY : installing lowering springs on 2010 Camaro on here and you will find some instructions.
Basically u turn it opposite of your 24 mm nut. It is dirrectly linked to you strut.

Of course, as well as jack stands, torque wrench, a t40, 24 mm thru 3 mm sockets. Rented a spring compressor. The kicker was having to get a damn 24" breaker bar.

Also I think the sway bar design on the 12's is different. I had to use a 7 mm socket and a 15 mm ratchet to get sway bars off. If from what I've seen us correct the 10-11 use a 5 mm Allen wrench and 15 mm nut.

That was another one as I didn't have a damn 7 mm socket and the tolerances are so low that a 3/32 just rolled around

The tower nut spins right off with an impact wrench If you don't have that, the t50 and an open ended 24mm is how you get it off.

The '12s are def. differnet. I have no experience with those yet.

I am in the same boat as you guys. Several trips to get metric stuff. I think I have everything now.

Besides being a mod addict, I am a tool addict. I look for projects to do that require me to buy new tools. I don't have everything now because there are tools at the hardware store that I don't own but I need to own (even though I have no idea what the purpose of some of the tools is).

Awesome thank you! It appeared to either be a T40 or T50 but I wasn't sure.

IROCanSS - I wish I had an impact wrench at this point...

I appreciate everyone's help and input. Love this forum!

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

Yes the way bars are crazy annoying. I need to invest in air tools but need a compressor. I don't wanna spend the money on it though....

You say that now but once you get one you'll wonder why you didn't buy it sooner. Air tools FTW!!!
