Its not impossible, its just an i'll believe it when I see it kind of deal.

If the engine can run 20psi+, thats great. But id like to see it done before I praise the accomplishment.

speculation is that the ecoboost would be a bit more than 355hp in the mustang itself because of different headers and such. i heard a rumor of 370 ish

There are plenty of factory boosted cars that can take 20+ psi. It wouldn't be anything new.

As for the Challenger vs the Stang vid, a member on ModularFords.com took his bone stock 3:73 geared stang to 13.36@105. Heh he had 286 miles on it !!! Heh talk about breaking the car in.

I am not sure what a stock SRT8 runs, but quite possible...that the stang took him.

I know the old aluminum cobra blocks (96-01) take more boost than the iron block 03/04's. I wouldn't worry about it, especially on a factory boosted application.

It only makes 355hp in DI, twin turbo trim. The port injection, NA 3.5 only makes 265hp.

Ford could probably get 300 (or what ever it takes to keep up with the V6 Camaro) by bumping up the displacement and/or adding DI (already on the TT version).

FWIW: I've heard that the Ecoboost was detuned in the MKS & Taurus because Ford doesn't have a transverse transmission that can survive more power. I think that the Ecoboost Mustang will make enough power to hang with the SS and the 5.0 will go in a (slightly faster?) heritage special edition.

At least that would be the smart thing for Ford to do if the engines are up to it. I can't see the business case for a car between the V6 and GT, but I could see offering two SS fighters. One for those who insist on a V8 and one for those who want better mileage or to mod for huge power.

I don't know if I missed the part that says for sure what engines are coming on the 2011 mustangs, but one thing just doesn't add up to me. Mustang was the only game in town (pretty much) for affordable V8 coupes since 2003. They enjoyed good sales throughout that time, obviously. They had 3 variants, v6, GT, and GT500. With what are sure to be significantly reduced sales for the next few years, is Ford really going to have an updated v6 for the base car, a TTV6 for a middle ground car, a 5.0L V8 for a GT, and a GT500? IMO the TTv6 would be way to close in cost and performance to the 5.0L to justify offering it. It is not as if the 5.0L DOHC motor or the ecoboost V6 will be cheap engines by any stretch.

Based on the historical significance of the 5.0L motor (i know-its not the same) I think this is far more likely than the ecoboost setup. Should be interesting to see if the Mustang can keep the weight off, my guess is the cost is going to go up considerably if they build a 400hp 5.0L motor and move to 6 speed transmissions.
