We only give you a hard time because we know you can handle it.

When are we gonna install your springs? Or are you gonna pay HPS to do it?

How come no one has offered to help install my springs????? And the more important question is......have you all had your bushings timed after you installed the springs....

Insomnia....psh this is prime time.

If I had known you had springs to install then I would have no problem offering help. I have no idea if they had them timed or not.

Once I do it I know I'll have mine timed.

Bushings need timed BEFORE you do the alignment. They will time themselves after a few days of driving. If you don't time the bushings before the alignment, it may throw off your new alignment settings a little when the bushings time themselves.

When you loosen the suspension with no load on the car, tighten the suspension, load it by letting it down on the ground, the bushings now can "twist" and cause them to act like more spring. If you align to this, and then the bushings time themselves by naturally slipping, the car will be a little lower causing the alignment to be modified. I don't think that it is that big of a deal...GM's alignment specs are very wide to begin with. If you want your alignment to be perfect, you'll want to time your bushings before the alignment. This is done by leaving the suspension bolts a little loose while you drive it around the block "slowly". Then come back and tighten everything while the tires are still loaded. I would imagine that 90% of the technicians that do these alignments don't time the bushings, because it takes a lot of extra work, and alignment specs are usually really wide in these cars.

I, and I believe Dex, had our Chevy dealers do the timing and the alignment. We took in the specs, and they did the job. I gave my guy a print out from camaro5 about what timing is, not to suggest they didn't know, but to assure I was going to get what I want. I also gave him the specs for the alignment that came from Pfadt, the springs I installed.

I did hear the clucking that people talk about with Pfadt. I was told by Pfadt that when installing, make sure the sleeve on the spring was in the correct position. The sleeve must have slipped during installation. The car was clunking during most of HRPT. When I got back, is when I discovered the sleeve slipped. I repositioned it, all is well.

Thanks for the input. I told Steve the bushings needed to be timed.....he didn't know that term, but I bet he knows what the process is, just not the term for it. Can you drive a bit on the installation before you get it aligned? He can definitely install the springs, but doesn't have an alignment machine. I was going to have the tire/performance shop here in Lawrenceville do it.

You can drive it before the alignment...but not too far. Just have him put the alignment back to about what it was before...meaning mark the bolt locations before you remove them so that you know where they were before. It might not drive the best, but you can get it to the alignment shop. Sometimes the shops will loosen the suspension while it is on the alignment lift, then bounce the car up and down, which helps the bushings time themselves.

That's exactly what they did. I made about a 20 mile drive after my installation. I didn't really notice a differece in the way it drove.

I really don't remember. I wanna say around $120. This sounds about right because I think I was charged for just more than an hours worth of work. This included alignment and timing, also known as clocking.

I did a quick search and found this. I didn't read through it, but looks like it may help.
