It's my understanding the specs given are with the Normal key, then you get the second key that configures it for race mode ... A whole different animal when run with Race key ...

The advertised 444hp is not the problem and that is full hp regardless of key, On the dyno they are seeing 410 hp and very poor Torque numbers at 350 lbs, even less than the GT. I guess this is ok if you are racing on a oval track where you keep the rpms up for the whole run.

I believe that there will be a very limited run of them, so I wouldn't worry too much about seeing them on the street.

The Boss is not all about straight line numers! Anyone could easily turn a regular SS or GT into a 1/4 mile Boss beater....but the car will defeat you on the track and that is where it is really made to be ran. Ford has really put a lot of work and meaningful changes into the Boss versus the GT. Make sure you get educated before you start assuming too much.

The Boss being back is a very cool thing. I don't like all the paint schemes they got, but the orange, whte, and red ones look pretty damn nice. Nice horsepower, nice handling package. It's a cool package. I'm Camaro thorugh and through, but I've always loved the BOSS 302 and I am very glad to see it back.

if you know the history of the Boss, you would know that it is not a straight line car, it is for a track with turns in it where driving skills and car set up come to play. Stock for stock, the Camaro can't even catch a 2011 GT around a track let alone a Boss. You'll need a good suspension set up to catch a Boss. Oh, when someone starts factoring the price of their car when comparing it to the competition, it usually shows their insecurity. I am neither a Camaro nor a Mustang fanboy, I own a supercharged version of both (aftermarket SC on the SS) but I will take a limited numper Boss over a not too special run-of-the mill Camaro any day of the week.

A lot of folks love their automatics on this forum. You won't convince them of the virtues of a car tuned for track over straight line performance. I've given up trying.

It appears to be the exact same motor with just better turning. I race "Can Tuned" 2011 5.0 all the time at the track that probably make 444hp!

It's got 18hp more than a LS3 SS and at 3631lbs its only 229lbs lighter, and factory tires are a whole 10mm wider.

Lets compare.

MSRP of my 2010 LS3 1SS: 30,945
Add my muffler delete plus tips: 150
Add K&N: 380
Add NX plus GEN-X: 1,335
Add Trinity: 600
TOTAL: 33,410

MSRP of 2012 Boss 302: 40,145

some reason I don't feel like I'd be scared when one tries to play next to me on the interstate.. I'll just let the 150shot do it's thing.
Like what's already been stated, the Boss was made to run around a road course. The bump in horsepower only tells a small part of the story. The rotating assembly is fully forged. The valve train was lightened for higher revs. The suspension is fully revamped. It also gets better steering with the electronic assist. The Boss would absolutely murder an SS on a road course.

Seems pretty potent to me for little small block 302 v8. I would spend 40k for it though.

The more of these "specialty" cars come out, the more competition and pressure it will place on GM to come up with their own.

Can you say "SSX"?
