there is a bulletin for the shiny spots on the top. My tech fixed mine, did something to the brackets and it seems to have taken care of the problem. I would suggest you check with your dealer.

Nope, I'm sticking with this one. I have a lot of time and mods invested already. I still am holding out hope that this will be the last visit for the top. However I am warming up to all the ZL-1 vert pictures I've seen at the dealership this past week

I've noticed this more so on the drivers side on mine. It reminded me of how my door on my 67 Camaro and my 76 Trans Am use to feel when opening. Kind of clunky for lack of a better word. I've got a service appointment tomorrow morning and will have to add this to my list. I was just figuring it was me being anal (as my wife says) thinking it wasn't right, so I'm glad to see someone else bring it up. The wife thinks I'm just to picky and that I shouldn't expect everything to be perfect! lol

Sounds like it might be as simple as an indexing issue?

Orange if you are going to store it for the winter I would bring it in now and get it documented. Then come spring hopefully there will be a complete fix in.
On a side note, does anyone's top do this? My original top did not separate from the rails like top 2 does.
Thoughts?

That is how the top works. Your last one did it too.

Any one from Houston have their top successfully fixed? What dealership did you use? The two local dealerships that I called have not fixed any.

Going back in on Monday for the driver side water bag replacement. Hopefully this will end the saga. After 18" of snow this weekend I'm driving the Subaru anyways. Hopefully I can get a few more days in with the heated seats

Hate to jump the gun here (yet again...)

but...

as I posted earlier, I did some inspecting and discovered the TSB wasn't completed and the larger bracket was never trimmed down. Per SUX original post, (which GM later took credit for in the form of a TSB), I "hypothetically" trimmed down the bracket IAW the document...

haven't driven any length with the top down since (hypothetically) trimming, but the little I have= ZERO signs of the marks/dents... fingers crossed, lets hope this really worked!

In reference to where they are applying the tape, would it not be better to wrap the bracket with felt tape? It would at least provide some cushion between the bracket and the cloth top. BMW's use this felt tape to wrap up all wires to prevent them from rattling. I think it would also provide a nice barrier to the top. Just thinking of anything to do to keep from having the top replaced.

I'm using similar tape (its actually the cloth portion of 3m Velcro patches) as a protective barrier between the top liner and the sport bar where they barely touch...
