heinzd01 updated his by hand using gm.ca. I just did a spot check and it looks like we're still out of commission. Hopefully it's not that way in the morning.

They aren't checking just your car but they're making sure there isn't some pandemic issue that shows up. It may not show itself on a specific car even though it could actually be present on every car. This is normal production line procedure. There's far too many possible issues to just check a single car and ship it. They need a larger sampling with a larger amount of inspections to truly know that it's all good.

I have said this in other posts and will repeat it now: in 2004 the C6 Corvette began regular production on July 19 (at 50/day if I recall correctly) but due to the reasons stated in previous responses in this thread did NOT start shipping until the third week in AUGUST! Back then we had access to SOME info but nothing like we have now. My point: this is normal procedure and it is normal because it is effective in delivering high quality from drop off and not depending on warrantly repairs to make a quality car. -- laborsmith

There were reports all over here that the cars were released over the weekend to "ship to commerce". That's really my beef regarding why I'm still sitting at 3800...

Is there such a thing as factory pick up? Can a customer go to the Oshawa plant and pick up a sold-order Camaro there instead of waiting for it to be delivered to the dealer?

From what I have heard, in order to even make it to "ship to commerce" they have to log 1/2 million collective miles on the CTF fleet and THEN make any corrections/fixes/tweaks based on that. I am sure GM really wants to get these out ASAP, but in another direct quote 'they want to ensure "perfect build quality to first adopters."'

A little extra time in the grand scheme of things is just a blip. Yeah, it sucks, but gotta Hang tough...

Very doubtful GM would ever do factory direct sales and/or pickup. The chaos and liability would be through the roof.

Would be a PITA to get it exported to the US by yourself as well.

They may be waiting to fill up trains, trucks, etc. They aren't going to ship out one car on a truck. Also, it probably takes some time to get them through customs, etc.

I thought I read on here somewhere that dealers could track cars once they were shipped pretty closely? Almost like GPS.

I'll pay for it at this point.

Was wondering if there is any truth to the availability of black stripes as
a factory installed LPO item?

Factory=RPO

There is talk but nothing definite yet. The only two color stripes currently factory installed are the white and cyber-grey rally stripes.

No. GM does do this for the US plants but due to Canadian Commerce Laws and, GM can not allow factory pick up.
