Why bother driving it? You have already made up your mind so just write the review.

Confirmed: 5.0L for 2011 Mustang GT

Check out the link, the 5.0L has a Mustang specific part number for the 2011 model year....put simply that means the 2011 Mustang engine lineup will be.

Base V6: 3.7L DOHC V6

GT: 5.0L DOHC V8

The 4.6L could still be the base Mustang GT engine as was once the plan, but I have heard nothing about this for quite some time now so the 4.6L might be well and truly dead to the Mustang after 2010.

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...79#post5855079

PS: The 5.0L fender badge returns as well.

I'll say this now, Camaro dominance lasted 1 year. The Mustang already out-handles the Camaro and matches braking. With its superior size and weight, it almost kept up in the speed categories with the measly 4.6L. With the 5.0L, sorry, party's over boys.

The Mustang outhandles according to who? All the magazines who used the Mustang track pack, but didn't use the Camaro's competitive mode?

I have yet to see a three way comparison where the competitive mode is used on the Camaro.

Even with the Track pack, you do not even have an independent rear suspension. Throw out all the control arms and put a crap axle in the camaro will also shave weight, but I wouldn't want to hit a bad bump at high speeds, ESPECIALLY on a turn.

The Mustang can put a 6.0 in, They can keep it. Compared to the Camaro, that car looks like a 155lb weakling. The back is especially ugly compared to the Camaro.

This is widely incorrect. The Mustang has more visibility than the Camaro and it weighs less. The Camaro, however, has a lot of advantages. The truth is that the 2011 Mustang has clearly targeted the Camaro. I will go ahead and point out that the aftermarket is an important refuge for a performance car owner. The Camaro will have a year of aftermarket with its engine while the 2011 Mustang will be using a new motor. As a result, the Camaro will have parts available before the Mustang, creating an advantage when it comes to performance tuners who own the Camaro.

I'm alert but not concerned yet. Until we have some estimates, its just another engine.

Competitive mode just pushes out the limits, but doesn't affect wheel feedback or nimbleness, which is where the Mustang wins. I will give you grip will likely be closer, but grip and handling are not the same thing. On a winding mountain road, I'll take a Track Pack Mustang over the Camaro any day. Also, as far as I know most reviews will generally run a car through every setting of its electronic nannies. Pretty much every review I've read made a comparison of 0-60 and quarter mile times with and without launch control. LC is activated with competitive mode, so they did access it in their tests.

I'm alert but not concerned yet. Until we have some estimates, its just another engine.

Bill Ford himself referred to a 400hp Mustang in a press conference the other day when discussing future cars, and cars of the 2011 model year in particular. I would argue that tells us exactly where Mustang GT will be in terms of power since we'll only see a base model, the GT, and the GT500 for 2011.

As for Ford answering the Camaro with the 2011 Mustang....not really. At this point we know that the head of the Track Pack program was not benchmarking the Camaro when sorting out that setup, and the addition of the Cyclone V6 can't really be called a counter-move either since, at the moment, this is the only suitable base engine for a rwd Mustang currently in production. Literally, the only two choices were either a 3.5L Cyclone or a 3.7L Cyclone...and since the 4.0L Cologne has already ceased production we knew one or the other was coming. Genuinely, it was either the Cyclone or nothing.

As for the 5.0L, that program existed long before we knew what the Camaro would be bringing to the table in terms of power. I'm certain the Camaro wasn't ignored, but none of these programs was actually conceived as an answer to anything the Camaro specifically brings to the table.
