As a Lions fan today all I can think of is the line from Spaceballs........."may the Schwartz be with you"

OMG I can't believe he did that.......and I can't believe the rules allow it.

Ok did some car shopping and test driving today (ATS 2.0T AWD, Audi A4, Buick Verano 2.0T) and what do I spy in the used car lot at the Buick GMC dealer?????????? A Chevrolet PPV. Oh Fenwick? $25,986.

Mmm, your thoughts on the ATS VS. A4? Wondering how Caddie has done in their new direction.

Mrs. Number 3 did the driving for the most part. I did drive the A4 as I've driven an ATS prior to launch.

Cadillac has it for style. Nicer interior, more features but for a higher price.

A4 has some nice improvements for 2013. Many of my complaints on our Q5 have been addressed but not all.

Virano is a VERY nice Cruze and that isn't a criticism. But it doesn't even come close to an A4. But it does have features the A4 doesn't have for about $8,000 less. i.e. back up sensores, NAV, 40 more HP.

But the real question is to me...................is the ATS worth a few thousand more than an A4. And I'd have to say today, yes. More features, the 2.0T is more spritely than the same 2.0T in the Audi and both have AWD. I'd give a slight nod to the Audi for the 8 speed auto, but that is really only very slight advantage.

Interior on the ATS is really pretty impressive.

And YES, 2 golf bags fit in the ATS trunk.

If we go forward, we would likely pick the ATS, but it depends on the "deal".

Oh and sadly, here is what I heard on both cars......

"the is a $3,500 mark up on the ATS and we'd be willing to pass that on......."

"GM is really trying to move the Verano right now so there are some really good lease deals........................"

Sad that 2 of GM's newest are already being heavily discounted. Especially on the ATS which is barely out of the gate. That is a shame because it really is a nice car. But can you pry the mone out of the 3 series crowd? Apparently you can't.

Don't get me wrong, the Audi salesman was already a few thou off sticker and seemed ready to move as well.

Did you see the Motor Trend comparison where they picked the ATS over the Mercedes and the BMW? I'm impressed with everything about the ATS except for the gas mileage. But I guess I really shouldn't have expected such a big improvement with no huge advances in technology.

Any article that hasn't picked the ATS seems to be giving it to the 3 Series simply on being the long reigning champion in that class.

I worked with the team just a smidge very early on in the program and I know the the folks that did all the heavy lifting really sweated the details for mass, ride and handling. I think simply that it hasn't been a run away in the reviews for the ATS showd us more how good the 3 Series has been all these years.

As for FE, that pretty much comes from aerodynamics, mass and rolling resistence (also related to mass). On a performance car that prizes handling and braking, it would be hard to have a FE biased tire. Aero could be better I suppose. There are technologies that could help i.e. grill shutters on the Cruze Eco. And mass? Well the ATS is already lightest in the class. So unless you either put a hybrid powertrain or really small turbo engine under the hood, big leaps in FE as you point out are tough to come by. That being said, the 2.0T in both the A4, Verano and ATS all returned 24 mpg combined if I recall correctly. But my experience with the Audi is it will actually get you the EPA highway number in the real world. GM cars from my experience only return the EPA highway number if you cruise at 62 to 65 mph.

Turkey eating mashed potatoes again? Oh, my mistake.

I had to make more gravy & homemade cranberry sauce for the chicken & cornbread dressing. It was a good investment, and I still had the turkey drippings. Post Thanksgiving week is always a winner.

What is it? 35 by 2016 and then 54.4 by 2025? Pretty steep when you consider that 40 is the new benchmark for high fuel efficiency cars without hybrid propulsion.
