new 2012 replacement is in

Guys and Gals,
My replacement car is in (Straight trade with not cost to me, dealer did not want to lemon it out for some reason, bad press I bet).

New 2012 looks the same but I really like the new 2012 options. Foot well lighting is cool. Also the Manual Transmission is the only way to go. Only got 280 miles on it so far with 150 with the top down.

No rub marks.

Sorry that I won't be able to report more until the spring, it is going into storage next week. But I will be replacing the screws with flat screwable rivets from Ace Hardware. Also there is no tape at all on the rails or any other place.

Build date last week of Sept.

Fingers XX, and praying of no other problems.

#PIC5449A: Convertible Roof Cloth Sags At Rear / Large Gap Between Number 5 Bow And Rear Panel - (Oct 27, 2011)

Subject:Convertible Roof Cloth Sags At Rear / Large Gap Between Number 5 Bow And Rear Panel

Models:2011 - 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

This PI was superseded to update model and model years. Please discard PIC5449. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:

Customers concern that there is a large gap between the #5 bow and the rear "tulip" panel when the top is closed and latched. This may cause a sag in the cloth top material, causing the appearance of a loose fit.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This condition may have been caused by the topics discussed in PI0378 and/or PI0406. Review the latest revision of PI0378 and PI0406.
Replace the #5 bow following repair procedures in SI.
There are tips/tricks mentioned in GM Training videos/training courses for the Camaro Convertible located on the GM Training website. It is recommended to view these training items prior to beginning the repair.
Immediately following replacement of the 5 bow assembly, or any time the top assembly has been removed from the vehicle, and prior to cycling the top for the first time; it is necessary to follow the latest version of PI0406 to ensure that the Folding Top Quarter Outer Drain Panel (water management bag) is not interfering with the top assembly.
Failure to do this may result in damage to the #5 bow. In the April 2011 Emerging Issues video, there is a segment on inspection and finessing of the Folding Top Quarter Outer Drain Panel (water management bag).
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Service Information

2011 Chevrolet Camaro | Camaro (VIN F) Service Manual | Document ID: 2726338
#11-08-67-001A: Convertible Top Cloth Spots/Indentations or Damage Between #1 and #2 Bow (Follow Procedures Outlined Below) - (Oct 19, 2011)

Subject:Convertible Top Cloth Spots/Indentations or Damage Between #1 and #2 Bow (Follow Procedures Outlined Below)

Models:
2011-2012 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2012 model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 11-08-67-001 (Section 08 – Body and Accessories). Condition #1

Some customers may comment on seeing a cut or tear in the convertible top cover between the #1 and #2 bow, on either side of the vehicle.
Cause #1

Important: Ensure the retaining screws are installed in the proper location. The graphic above shows the correct (1) and incorrect (2) locations for the screws

Note: In the graphic above, the black plastic corner support has been painted white to make it more visible.

This condition may be the result of a headliner that was incorrectly installed, which allows the plastic corner support (stitched into the corner of the headliner) to create a pressure point on the convertible top cloth when in the stowed position.
Condition #2

Some customers may comment that they see spots or indentations in the convertible top cover between the #1 and #2 bow, on either side of the vehicle.
Cause #2

This condition may be caused by the convertible top cover material being pinched between the top flipper door bracket and the top frame.
Correction for Condition #1 and #2

Both conditions will be repaired in the same manner. Referring to the Parts Information below, contact the Warranty Parts Center (WPC) to order tape P/N WPC♦#611 and repair the condition following the steps below:
Important: If the convertible top has a depression in the top cover material, and the cloth is NOT cut, DO NOT replace the top cover. The depressions can be removed by washing the top cover using a mild soap and a soft brush, to loosen the material. If, however, the top cover is cut or has material threads showing, it will be necessary to replace the top cover. Mark the area of the cut with a paint pen. The top cover will be subject for return to the GM Warranty Parts Center (WPC).

1. Cycle the convertible top to a mid-open position. To protect against items falling into the interior of the quarter panel, place a shop towel over the opening in the quarter trim.

2. Remove the two screws (1) retaining the headliner corner support to the front flipper door bracket and position the headliner away from the bracket.

Note: In the graphic example above, the flipper door bracket was shown removed from the vehicle and marked for illustration purposes only.

3. Using paint or a wax pencil, mark the lower section of the flipper door bracket for material to be removed as shown above.

4. Use snips to trim away the marked section of bracket material.

5. Remove all sharp edges on the bracket with a file or sandpaper.

6. Using paint or a wax pencil, mark the corner support for material to be removed, as shown in the graphic above.

Note: Because of build variation of the convertible top, it may sometimes be necessary to cut the lower stitching with a razor blade or Exacto knife in order to access the lower edge of the headliner corner support.

7. Use snips to trim away the lower section of the material on the support.
8. Again, remove all sharp edges with a file or sandpaper.
9. Reposition the corner support to the flipper door bracket and install the retaining screws.

10. Put a dab of Kent High Tech™ Clear Seam Sealer*, P/N 10200, or equivalent, to seal the edge of the threads (1) where the stitching was cut.

11. Apply the protective tape obtained from the WPC to the mid-roof linkage (shown above) on BOTH sides of the convertible top.
11.1For each side, cut a 50.8♦mm (2♦in) length and a 25.4♦mm (1♦in) length from the P/N WPC♦#611 tape.

11.2Apply the longer piece of tape to the larger mid-roof link (1), on each side

11.3
Apply the shorter piece of tape to the smaller mid-roof link (2), on each side

12. Cycle the top and verify proper operation.

Got all excited when I read a new TSB, trimming, etc... but looks like the same thing. Hopefully I'll get some clarification on this Wednesday

Ugh. I had my car in the shop today for the 4th time for the PDIM not working correctly, and mentioned the rub marks on my top. Now they've ordered a new top. I almost wish I hadn't said anything... Seems like everyone who's gotten a new top has regretted it... :(

Got the car back tonight for the water management and top replacement. Everything looks good, now I just have to hope for a nice day to put the top down to see if the rub marks come back. All TSBs were implemented and the top inspected by the local GM rep. Keeping my fingers crossed !

This is not the 10/27/11 one according to the date. It say's 10/19/11. So is there a 10/27/11 one for the rub marks or a newer version?

The one on 10/27/11 is for the gap betwen the #5 bow and the rear panel not the rub marks.

#PIC5449A: Convertible Roof Cloth Sags At Rear / Large Gap Between Number 5 Bow And Rear Panel - (Oct 27, 2011)

Thanks MS3DALE !

I would like to thank MS3DALE for posting the bulletin for the #5 bow problem at the exact right time. After 8 months of ownership, all of a sudden, the top didn't sit flush in the back deck anymore. Took it to the dealer and was told that GM says there is a three week backorder on the #5 bow because "apparently, it's a pretty widespread problem". I asked the dealer if the top was going to have to be removed and he said yes, but he trusted his guys to do it right....OH BOY! I got a semi-fix for my rub marks from this dealer after two trys a few months ago when they trimmed the offending bracket. It decreased that problem but I still have the marks. I was gonna wait till they came out with a tried and true fix but figured while its in there and they are dickin with the roof they might as well try the half a dozen fixes that GM has shat out. Thankfully, it's gettin chilly
