My SS has been at the dealership for a few days short of a month now over a broken output shaft. A week for the ECM to be confirm stock tune. A week to get special tool to tear down tranny. The better part of 2 weeks to get all parts. Total Bullshit. GM refuses to put a new tranny in it. Now waiting for it to be re-paired.

Good Luck with waiting for a engine re-build.

Is your SS one of the early batches where the output shaft problem was more widespread?

Or it could be the tip of an iceberg. I'm thinking the issue is the combination of direct injection and maybe poor fuel quality. Another point to be made: is this the first application of GM's DI 3.6L with a manual transmission?

It has 12000 km on it since June of 09. So it won't km out. Torture the re-built 1 till it breaks and get a new one. 3.5 years to do it.

Funny, lol.... I'm 6'3 and I fit better in the Cobalt than I do in my mom's 2SS (I used to work for a rental company years ago so I've driven just about every car, lol). Sorry about your problems man... but as I used to tell people coming in for warantee work who got into those crappy Aveos and Cobalts: It'll make you appreciate what you've got.

The best was when I gave a guy with a 911 4S a mint-green two door Hyundai Accent. He walked away one of the happiest customers I've ever seen, lol.

sorry about your motor.. that sucks. It happens to every car company. Just sucks when it happens to you. Its that one in a million.
Dont worry if they do their job right and check all the tolerances a rebuilt motors is just as good as a new one.
I hope they gave you a loaner car since they going to have yours for so long.

Great, so the latest news from my dealer is that the connecting rods JUST became available and they are having them over-nighted. They said they will have it ready for friday. That mechanic is going to be rushing all of thursday and friday to get it done and he will definitely be under pressure from the service manger. I feel like in the rush something may get overlooked or done incorrectly. Crossing my fingers...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I cant even explain how angry I am right now! The dealer said they are getting the connecting rods in friday or monday and my car won't be ready until NEXT friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats FORTY FOUR days in the shop for a motor problem! GET OUT OF HERE!

Let me repeat that again, 44, FORTY FOUR STRAIGHT days with no car.

GM you really need to step up to the plate here and fix this because at this point you've pretty much lost a customer for life. Hopefully you guys can figure something out to make this right.

I think its time to contact a lawyer.

Hells bells!! That's apalling. I can't believe the dealer didn't hook you up with a similar car from his lot, after he realised how long things were going to take. As you say they, and GM may have lost a customer for life, for the price of a little courtesy and common sense. Good luck in the meantime.

Just got off the phone with a district service manager. Hes saying hes going to get me two payments made. I'm not unhappy with that but I'm still pretty angry.

I still feel dissatisfied but that admittedly could be the result of me still being angry.

Forward this thread to Fbodfather. Not sure what if anything he can do, but nonetheless he needs to be aware of this situation. Poor customer service by the dealer and unacceptable repair option by General Motors (as you are all well aware by now I support a full replacement of the OP's engine with a brand new one instead of simply "repairing" it).

DarkneSS I would not fault you for never buying a GM vehicle again.
