Why get the money back for the upgrades if you are still replacing the car? Won't you still want to upgrade that one?

I'm glad your friend told you that he wouldn't hold it against you for pressing charges. It would suck to lose a good military friend over something like this. You'll probably never have to deal with the parents or sister again anyway. You did the right thing... thanks for sharing your story and thank you for your service!
I shop is in Florida, close enough to FT Stewart but within 90 days of getting back I will be moving to D.C. Since all my household goods are already packed away when I get back I will just camp out on someone's couch until the move. Knowing me what will more then likely happen is I will leave GA with nothing but the bag i have been living out of fly to D.C and have a cab take me from the airport to the dealership. With USAA you build the car on their website where you get all sorts of military and government contractor discounts, then whatever the the price comes to be every dealership carrying the chevrolet name has to honor that price.

I will try to work it down on my own first and if they dont go low enough then i will give them the quote and the middle finger.

Relax, GM has another Camaro for you. First of all you said they had taken it more than one time. In law that would be a count. One time could be a mistake and probation. More than once with the mileage documentation is intent. They knew what they were doing. So did the family. NO way the whole family wasn't screwing you by using the car. Who else might have driven it.. who knows. One thing is factual your car is totaled. So what I would do is give them 24 hours from today for the family to come up with the money or file charges. Plain and simple. And for them to play the guilt trip on you saying that you got a break in life.... HELL NO. Has nothing to do with it. 24 hours or file charges. While they were eating McD's and trashing your car, spinning the tires and being big shots, you were and still are in harms way. Get your head back in the game and focus what you need to do in Iraq and call an attorney and let them take care of it for you. And if the guy you laid a deposit on keeps it, he is a bigger ass than your family for trying to take advantage of you since you are away.

THe family's BS about giving her another chance is exactly why she is the screw up she is now. And here you are, risking your life and serving our country, and they are asking you to not only take the hit on your insurance (good luck trying to get insurance again at a reasonable cost with this on the books) AND eat the investment you made? She will NEVER be able to pay it back, it will drag on for a few years, you'll get a couple bucks and that will be the end. You left holding the bag. Please report what happened and be made whole, this is the last thing you need to be worrying about.

Thank you for serving our country.

If you want to be a good guy you tell the parents that you want to hear from either, CamaroScotty or Becky Rodgers that a brand new Camaro has been paid for in full and will be sitting with them at the dealership when you get back.

Other wise report it as stolen. I am a very religous man and this is the only way I would let them off the hook.

Simple: They give you the $35,000 (less value of junked car) or you tell the cops it was stolen.

Wow, amazing how many people don't bother reading the thread or even skim for updates!

I think you did the right thing, and if she was just kicked out for having sex in the parent's place I think people are being a bit too judgmental on her but not for stealing your car.

After all, they didn't have the money to pay you and how can even trust she would? After the window closed for reporting it stolen and she misses payments to you there's not much you could do. Plus the fact you wouldn't be able to get another Camaro until your first loan gets paid off... and who knows what the lender would have done after they discover there's no longer any collateral against your loan.

On top of that your 'friend' did tell them not to touch and they decided to anyways... did any of them apologize? Isn't it funny how they make the victim look like the bad guy?

First, Thank you so much for your service! Second, that is terrible and super sucks. Third, she didn't have permission to drive it so yeah mom and dad, IT'S STOLEN!

With my kids and the kids I work with at my church youth group I always stress to them that our actions have consequences! Make good decisions and realize what you do affects others! If mom and dad don't step up on this they are enabling her to continue screwing up and showing it doesn't matter what you do, we'll get you out of it. This will be a tough lesson for her, but maybe the one that straightens her out.

Good luck!

If her family is not willing to help her get control of her life, then perhaps you should. A little jail time will sometimes bring slow learners around.

So before I was even able to brush my teeth this morning I was told my car had been totaled. As the story goes he let his troubled sister come stay with him after their parents put her out, and she and her equally retarded boyfriend decided that it would no big deal to take my car just around the block to the store. Somehow just around the block turned into across town. They actually had driven my car so long that there was now a need to put more gas in it so big brother wouldn't find out. While leaving the gas station parking lot the little sister who has never driven anything but her hand-me-down honda civic, got on the gas too much, spins out, hits another car, stalls, and then is t-boned. Car totaled.

This is where the story gets really fun. Once the cops get there, the story is the car belongs to a friend of the family and they had permission to drive it. Tickets are written, insurance exchanged, but no one goes to jail. .....HELL NO. Because the police report says They had permission, my insurance company is now denying to pay for the car, because as anyone who has put a vehicle into storage mode knows, that car can't be driven. They did however inform me that if I was to call the police station and tell the officer to change the report to reflect the car being driven without my knowledge or permission, then all is fine in insurance land and they will pay the car off as soon as they get the new report.

Back to aforementioned former friend. I have had the pleasure of speaking to him and his entire family all pleading with me not to say that their baby stole my car because it will ruin her life and she doesn't deserve that for a mistake. ARE YOU F_ING SERIOUS. They have politely offered to make her pay for my car however long it takes. Really...really. I'm grown with great credit and a 6 year military work history and I had to practically sell some a$$ to buy this car, where is a unemployed 18yr old going to get 35,000.

I am however slightly sympathetic because I was young once, got into trouble and the second chance given to me is why I am not in jail. What do you guys think.
Feel for you. I think a little "old west" justice is in order.

However, the first mistake was trusting a friend to look after your baby.

You should have rented a storage unit, prepped the car for long term storage, and locked the keys in a safe deposit box.

Lots of fail here for not reading for updates.

Thank you for serving for our country and sorry about the car.

Glad it has worked out and USAA took care of you. They are the best I love it when another insurance company calls and asks if I want to switch. Soon as I tell them no sorry I have USAA they tell me to have a nice day. They can't compete with them.

Sometimes in life learning the lesson the hard way is the only way to get through to someone. Hopefully this puts her on the correct path.
