The clacking noise while annoying is further made worse by the breather kit which is supplied with most kits. The Oil cap Breather has the blow off check valve installed wrong. its allowing air into the engine and not out ...... Its suppose to allow air pressure to be relived not ingest!

Incorrect. The breather is designed to allow filtered fresh air in replacing the stock fresh air tube from the airbridge that can allow oil in through reversion and to meet emmissions will not allow vapors to vent into the air. You can order it w/out the checkvalve for off road use only. The crankcaase evac system will deal with any excess pressure unless you have a blow-by issue and then you have a deeper issue.

We tried this at Teds suggestion to see and there was no differance between the stock oil cap & the checkvalved breather kit in the noise. It is the can amplifiying the noise the new checkvalves makes and we are switching back to the previous ones and also include the plain fitting in all kits.

On the hose yes, the ebay ones seem to use soft fuel line that collapses under vacuum. We use a stiff sidewall trans cooler or power steering grade.

I have not,
Just curious to see the difference in noise.

I'm still running without a valve and after 300 miles the inline glass tube was clean. I need to drain the can and shoot another picture of the glass tube tonight. Oh and sound...mine is still quiet.

I'm still running without the valve and so far no oil in the output hose. I too need to check my drain soon. I'm waiting to see if they come up with a quieter hose solution!

Try some transmission cooler hose from AutoZone. It's what I use and there is no sound coming from the hoses. Seems like the root cause of your noise is something else and the hose on it's own isn't able to muffle the sound. It's just hard to imagine cloth like material impregnated rubber being the source of sound.

Mike, if you want I can send you my complete setup (can ,bracket, hoses, and all) to try out.

does anyone know the part number for the factory pcv tube for a l99 that goes from the drivers side rear of the engine to the intake. To cut down on some hissing noise from the hose i want to use as much as the factory hard line as possible, but i want to have another just in case. thanks

Just a quick update for those going without a check valve. I have almost 700 miles on the no-valve can with the glass filter installed. The glass tube looks clean and I drained about 1 - 1.5 oz of oil from the can. Oh and remember, I have the old style can.

Interesting! Tracy wants me to send mine in to be replaced. He's going to slice mine open and check for any problems! I'll let you guys know how the replacement works. I drained my can with about 300 miles on it and only got a couple drops.

Now you have me wondering if there is some type of blockage in the can causing the hiss and preventing oil from even getting in there. It's either that or you are very lucky, your PCV system doesn't blowby much, and you don't need a can.

Can't wait to hear what Tracy finds and how your new can performs.

Catch can

I installed my Rx Catch can about 4 weeks ago and it was one of the very noisy ones. Ran the car with the can for approximately 400 miles.I removed it yesterday to swap out the replacement fitting and the can was bone dry...not a drop of oil.
So either there is something wrong with the can or the updates done to my engine (AFM lifter and driver's side rocker cover replacement) have done the job of preventing oil injestion. One other issue I was having was that I was getting a significant smell of hot oil after driving, and not necessarily under aggresive driving conditions. Not sure of the cause of that. I am not experiencing any oil leak issues. I was running a K&N air intake as well as the oil cap breather with the airbridge capped.
