TOTALLY AGREE!!!...that's how i finally "got it"...practicing by myself with no one hovering over me and scrutinizing my technique...after awhile it just came naturally and i could drive it in my sleep, jk, but it became 2nd nature to me...

I will give you the same advice I give others who I ride with.........."If you can't find them grind them".

Where can a manual car be rented in the US?

Definitely, practice alone. Have someone give basic lessons if necessary, have someone help you with specific problems, but do the bulk of your practicing alone.

I meant that in a way that typically (well at least what I'm use to), linkage style clutch can be stiff and unforgiving. From my experience with a hydraulic clutch, it's a much softer pedal and pretty forgiving on where you "feel" the pedal engage.

I do agree with you that a non-hydraulic style clutch will give you a bit more feel at first, but like anything, you'd get a feel for it anyhow eventually (muscle memory maybe?)
