I drooled while reading that article. 650hp stock. When will it end? ten more years and ill be driving my 100mpg 1000hp car to work every day :P

Now at what point in time does Chevy elevate the camaro to the same status within GM as the corvette. Because if they really want to keep matching the gt500 tic for tac, at some point they will either be forced to live with lower hp numbers or go all out on the camaro and be damned if it eats into the vette. EXACTLY! This is what I have been explaining to some of my friends. Yeah that's the unfortunate result of Ford having no "Halo" car. The Mustang can go up to 1,000hp if they want because they don't have a more expensive sports car above it. Ford will always win like that in the hp category. This 580hp is the most the ZL1 can get (maybe 600hp max) from the factory before it starts to encroach into Corvette territory. Having a 200mph Camaro would totally denote a ZO6 and ZR1's reason for being. Of course the ZO6/ZR1 still would handle better, but with a ZL1 with a higher top speed than a $75,000 ZO6 (198mph) and closing in on a $113,000 ZR1 (202mph) would be a big no-no in GM. Same for Chrysler too. You won't see a Challenger with 650 hp and 200mph when there is a $95,000 6??hp, 200+mph 2013 Viper. If Ford still had the Ford GT around there would definitely be a cap on the power the Mustang would be allowed to have.

But I do give Ford credit, and rightfully so. I NEVER thought I would see a Mustang with that much power, and with that top speed from the factory! I do wish that Ford would bring back the Ford GT as a "Halo" car to compete with the Viper/Corvette/exotics though. But it is still mind-boggling that there will be a Mustang with more HP than a Corvette ZR1, Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR, Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640, Mclaren SLR, Mclaren MP4-12C, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Maserati MC-12, etc...

It's a great time for American cars!

Wishful thinking. I know the vette and maro are 2 different cars but they won't give the maro more hp than the zr1

No telling what the ZR1 HP will be increased to, possibly 800 to 850 HP! This is like the cold arms race, who has the most nukes?

Man, what a kick in the junk. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until 2013 for either a ZL1 or the new snake. Interested to see how GM responds to this; guess we'll just have to wait and see.

2013 ZL1 will be the one to own. Not the 2012 model. Hence why I'm waiting. GM and Ford will continue to go back and forth with hp #s. Its all about who can get there car to stick to the ground.
